Keeping kids active and off the couch isn't always easy when summer kicks in. 7's Lynn Martinez takes us to a summer camp with a variety of fun activities so they never get bored in Tonight's Parent to Parent.
WSVN -- Whether your kid is into hip-hop, kicking the winning goal or just keeping cool in the pool, there's a ton of stuff to keep them busy all summer long at the YMCA.
The experts here know it can be a challenge for parents to keep kids active when school lets out.
Bryan Hunt: "They're going to work everyday. They may not have the time, all the time to plan certain activities for their kids."
That's why the Y offers a ton of fun activities with the spotlight on staying healthy and fit.
Bryan Hunt: "We're focusing on nutrition, physical fitness, social development which is very important and also education."
Like learning good for you food doesn't have to taste bad a nutritionist dishes out simple, healthy recipes kids can make at home.
There's also aquatic camps where little ones learn survival skills in the water.
Bryan Hunt: "The YMCA prides themselves on teaching kids swim lessons and also drowning prevention techniques."
And there's a camp for kids with special needs so absolutely no child is left out. 12-year-old Jonathan, a YMCA camper chose to dedicate his summer to helping these children enjoy theirs.
Trina Chincheong: "He formed such a special bond very quickly and really loves these kids."
His mom says it's more than a summer camp, it's something her son will never forget.
Trina Chincheong: "It's really such an experience like no other and it's going to shape a child's life forever."
Lynn Martinez: "The Y is for kids ages 5-15 and there is financial aid available for some families."
