If your child has a creative streak there's a perfect place for them to express their inner artist, and it's all under one roof. 7s Lynn Martinez shows us in tonight's Parent to Parent.
WSVN -- From creating your own cartoon to shaping a ceramic masterpiece, there's a ton of activities to keep kids busy at the New Young at Art Museum.
Marie Segre: "We are in an amazing facility, it has provided inspiration for all of our programs. And the canister kinda drops out of his hand."
Like the new digital arts program headed by Rob Cabrera. A nationally syndicated cartoonist who's now bringing his talent to young minds.
Rob Cabrera: "In Digital Arts we're able to do a lot of different projects in cartooning, in animation."
In this class, kids learn how to take their artwork to a whole new level. They're drawing cartoon not with the traditional pencil and paper, but with the power of the ipad.
Rob Cabrera: "So they're learning how to create artwork in layers, they're learning how to apply different effects to their drawings."
11-year-old Damian wants to create his own comic strip.
Damian Flores: "I like to draw superheroes and swords."
But he also says being here isn't all about the work.
Damian Flores: "It's also about the friendship and stuff you get to make friends and learn from them."
These kids are picking pieces for a mural on mother nature. 14-year-old Brooke knows art can be messy as she's learning how to make pottery on the spinning wheel.
Brooke Regent: "At the end we have every artwork we do to take home."
This mom has both of her daughters here over the summer. Her oldest Allison, is taking the cartooning class.
Patricia Garland: "They are producing their own cartoons and their own little movies, it's amazing."
And her youngest, 5-year-old Grace who has down syndrome is having so much fun she doesn't want to go home.
Patricia Garland: "It's a great feeling you know, she let's me know she's happy."
