It's hard to believe kids will soon be heading back to class. From the hottest backpacks and notebooks to decking out that new dorm room. 7's Lynn Martinez goes shopping in tonight's Parent to Parent.
WSVN -- Grab the cart and the kids, it's time to load up on all those school supplies.
Drew Prieto: "I want to get a new backpack and some pencils."
Will Prieto: "A pencil sharpener, an eraser, a new backpack."
Will and his younger brother Drew are out school shopping with mom.
Alexis Prieto: "I like to be prepared so getting ready for school is definitely upon us."
Their first stop: Staples in Downtown Miami, where parents are already stocking up.
Ulysses Perez: "Obviously, they're looking for the hip stuff for the kids."
From the essentials like pencils, paper, pens and notebooks to backpacks, lunch boxes and even silly pens. There's something for every student's taste.
Alexis Prieto: "They're attracted to the look of things, the coolness, the fun part of it."
While mom looks for items that will hold up.
Alexis Prieto: "Definitely durability, it has to last us the entire school year."
Bright colors are a popular trend this year.
Ulysses Perez: "We have colorful arrays of binders, we have folders with designs."
But some are sticking with basic black.
Drew Prieto: "I want a black lunchbox and a black backpack."
At BJ's Wholesale Club in Miami Lakes, parents are buying in bulk especially for kids getting ready to go off to college.
Andy Compres: "It saves them from having to constantly send more money to purchase things so frequently."
Water, snacks and bathroom supplies are perfect items to buy in bulk. We know dorm rooms are small so you'll also want space savers.
Andy Compres: "Here's are bed riser system."
To create storage space under your bedthese, tupperware containers are great for food or school supplies.
Andy Compres: "We have 76 different pieces here."
Check out this i-pad stand which turns back into an ottoman, and students love this vintage fridge soda machine, and all in one breakfast maker.
Andy Compres: "We have our coffeemaker here. We have our toaster oven over here, and we have our fryer up here."
Everything a college student needs for those late nights studying, of course.
