All Parent to Parent

If your child is a picky eater, give him or her a frying pan. In tonight's Parent to Parent, 7's Lynn Martinez shows us how kids who help in the kitchen tend to try more foods.

WSVN -- These kids are about to get cooking inside Tommy's Italian Restaurant in Davie.

The program is called The Little Chef. It's the brainstorm of sisters Samantha and Sabrina who basically grew up in the kitchen

Sabrina Milner: "I used to go to my grandmother's on the weekend and I remember taking out her spices and her herbs and sitting on her counter and mixing them together."

Their passion for cooking, and love for kids seemed like the perfect recipe!

Samantha Fariello: "It's educational, it's fun, they learn a lot."

Each class focuses on a different country, so first the kids line up to get their passports stamped.

Samantha Fariello: "So today we're doing what country? Italy!"

Today's menu includes stuffed shells with spinach and Foccacia bread.

Samantha Fariello: "Foccacia bread is almost like a pizza dough but it's more fluffy and plump and they're going to baste it with olive oil and fresh herbs."

It's time to dig in.

Samantha Fariello: "So we're going to take our tomatoes and we're gonna crush our tomatoes."

First they make the sauce, adding in only fresh ingredients.

Samantha Fariello: "Now take some of your basil and put some basil in."

Then they line the pans with sauce and now it's time to fill those shells While the shells bake, the kids knead the dough. Some even using an artistic touch.

And finally, it's time to eat their creation.

Both 6-year-old Justin and Kendall are on the autism spectrum.

Kenneth Brown: "He's a very picky eater. If it's not a chicken mcnugget he probably won't eat it."

But dad says the cooking classes have encouraged him to try new foods. Justin's dad says he loves cooking with the other kids.

Jeremy Jasso: "The interaction with the other children his age, he just seems to love what he's doing."

This 12-year-old says everyone should learn how to cook.

Justin Fisher: "Because if you're single it's not going to work to go out every night."

The Little Chef classes take place on the weekends.
