Is your pooch always in the dog house for bad behavior? It's a major complaint among many pet owners. But most of the time, disobedience is fixable. Health Specialist Marilyn Mitzel shows us how in today's protecting your pet.

(WSVN) -- Insessant barking. Ripping up the house. Disobedient behavior.

Claudia Emanuel, Maddy's mom: "I can't even explain what it's like to stand on the phone and listen to your dog bark or actually be afraid that your dog's gonna run out the front door and hurt the dog next door."

Weighing in at about 20 pounds Maddy is a heavy burden for the Emanuel's.

Claudia Emanuel, Maddy's mom: "She was very annoying to me, very annoying."

Sound familiar. Many people love their pets but hate their behavior.

No matter what age - it's possible to teach a dog new tricks.

Truth be known obdience classes are more for us than them.

Claudia: "I'm being trained too because I have to learn the commands correctly."

Luis Escobar, Bark Busters: "Every dog can be trained -- every dog."

Bark Busters is one of many animal training services - there are also books - DVD's and tapes.

Luis: "We train the dogs the way they will be trained by another dog. They already know the system."

The key is understanding how animals think and what they respond to, like growling.

Antonia Britz-Escobar: "Dog jumps on intern -- Claudia responds by growling -- dog gets down -- She's never done that before."

For instance - dogs are pack animals - we must teach them they don't have to be the leader.

Antonia: "What we're trying to teach the dog is that it's not the dog's responsiblility to take control of all the members of the house."

After just a few hours...

Claudia Emanuel, Maddy's mom: "I feel like the big problems, most of them are gone."

The weight of the world is off your pet's shoulders too.

Antonia: "It's like you see them sighing -- like oh thank goodness somebody took responsibility."

Fast forward one week.

Claudia's son: "She doesn't bother me when I'm playing with my friends."

Cierra Emanuel: "She's so much better."
