Room for Improvement: Home Office Makeover
Out with the old, in with the new. Tonight, our makeover maestro has a dual challenge. He not only has to clean up a neglected home office, he has to turn into a suitable work space. Here's Martin Amado with tonight's room for improvement.
WSVN -- Spring is just around the corner, you know what that means, it's time for spring cleaning. Now that's no fun unless
you get to reveal a brand new space at the end! On today's Room for Improvement, we're doing both as we give a home office better style and function after lots of dusting and decorating!Martin: "Room for improvement. Hi Claudia … how are you? Let's see that office."
Martin: "How does this actually function for you?"
Claudia: "Well I hate to admit it, but it's really not functioning for me now. The house is going through a lot of changes and redecorating and unfortunately this is the room that got neglected.
Martin: "I see that it looks like a war zone."
Martin: "The office is in major need of an overhaul … but before any of the decorating can begin, we have to get to a more pressing matter, cleaning up the clutter! Not a fun job, but someone has to do it.
"Martin: "Now that we have a clean slate, let's give this room instant personality with some paint color."
Martin: "The homeowners already had these, but by painting the wall and bringing in some other accent pieces that pick up on the same wood tone. Now the office has a cohesive design that really works."
Martin: "The cleaning doesn't stop."
CHEAP FIX
Aside from decorating, we really need to make this
room function as an office. And we want to maximize every space including the closet. If you can't afford those expensive closet organizers, and inexpensive bookshelf does the trick."Martin: "I liked the base of this lamp. I just wasn't too crazy about the shade. A bit dated. But a new shade helps to make something old, new again. Great on the budget too.
"Martin: "A successful home office combines beauty with function. In this case we have in boxes, pencil cups and letter holders. They look great and help you keep things neat and organized.
"Martin: "And this is the finishing touch. Who says you can't combine work and play. It's your home office and there are no rules.
"Martin: "This morning, this space was a complete clutter zone and the home owner had loss on what to do with it. But, in one day and with a budget of less than a thousand dollars it's become a space that reflects home and office. Let's hope Claudia like it.
"Martin: "Just remember the disaster this morning when you left the house. Ok? Open your eyes.
Claudia: "Oh my God. Woo hoo. I have an office. Oh my god this is beautiful. This is so nice. You have a beautiful organized neat desk. Oh Martin, thank you."
Ok I'm done with all the cleaning and decorating for today.
The key to a home office make over is to place the emphasis on the word "home" instead of office. As you saw you can truly create a beautiful space in your home that is really a pleasure to work in. I'll see You next week.
