All Room for Improvement

They say good things come in small packages, but when it's a very small bedroom you're trying to decorate, things can get tricky. Tonight, our makeover maestro is back at it proving elegance can be affordable. Here's Martin Amado with room for improvement.

WSVN -- Another day another home with Room for improvement. This time, an empty bedroom will be turn into a beautiful space for the homeowner's daughter who is away at college Now we have to paint the entire space believe it or not, so lets not waste any time because it's all happening in one day.

Martin: "Ok, this is the homeowner Barbara and this is the room we are doing today."

Homeowner Barbara: "My daughter is up in Gainsville, she is at her first quarter of school and when she left home, I had told her that, Sara, I am going to be moving your younger sister into your room and that did not go over really well. So I want her to be able to come home and feel great about her new room, know that mom didn't desert her."

Martin: "Ok, you need to get to work, I need to get to work as well because I am painting the entire space believe it or not and by the end of the day, when you come back it will be a beautiful room."

Martin: "My car doubles as a pick up truck and now that the shopping is done, we have to start painting. Barbara has not seen anything I bought, so I hope she likes it."

Martin: Let's talk a little about our design plan for the room. We are going for a bed and breakfast type look. We have a lot of dark wood in the room so we are going to lighten it up a bit."

Martin: "In this case we are going for a light yellow. A lot times people are afraid of color or they don't know where to start. If you find there is a certain toss pillow you like, in this case I found most of the colors in this pillow sham that we are going to use on the bed."

Martin: "It picks up the blue from the carpet and we are going to pick up the yellow in the walls. Before we begin painting, we have to prep the walls."

Martin: "We need to cover up all the holes so we have a nice foundation for the paint to go on top."

Martin: "Ok let's paint. Here is a tip when it comes to painting close to the ceiling when painting a popcorn ceiling. All you have to do is get a little bit of paint on the end of the brush, take of the excess of course, put the brush close to the popcorn ceiling and kind of just wiggle it."

Martin: "Use the roller for the bigger coverage. Bring it up to the wall, start at the very top and do a straight line down, that way it ensures that you have even coverage throughout."

Martin: "Ok painting is done, step one is complete, I don't have too much on me which is a good sign, let's move on to decorating."

Martin: "It's time to move onto the bed, making it the focal point of the room. Break up the pattern with solid pillows, in this case we are using a yellow that brings out the yellow from the sham."

Martin: "And of course we always have to have a different flower print, don't think you have to always get the same print that is on the bed."

Martin: "This is what is really going to give the bed the wow factor that we are looking for, there is going to be a canopy."

Martin: "Voila! Instant beautiful Bed."

Martin: "Here is another special touch to incorporate into your guest bedroom, get a few towels, roll them up, put them in a basket, it's nice touch for when your guests come over."

Martin: "Ok guys its the end of the day and this is proof that decorating can be done in day."

Martin: "An empty bedroom has now become a beautiful sort of bed and breakfast retreat, not only for the homeowner, but also for the daughter who is away at college. And we did all of this for under $600 dollars. But it's not a bargain until we see if the homeowner is satisfied.

Barbara: "Oh My God, look at this room, it's beautiful, It's a little princess room. She is going to love it. I don't know she is moving in here, I am."

Martin: "Ok guys, another decoration mission accomplished, as you can see I still have some paint on me, so it's definite proof that we did paint. I will see you next time when we find another space in need of Deco Aide here on Room For Improvement."

Remember Martin can work with just about any budget and turn your house into a dream home.
