All Room for Improvement

One South Florida couple has one wish for Christmas - peace and quiet. But to get away from the kids and the commotion, they need a space of their own. In tonight's "Room for Improvement," Martin Amado is up to the challenge. He's turning their master bathroom into a romantic masterpiece.

WSVN -- On this addition for "Room for Improvement," we are revamping a plain old master bath into an exotic getaway. They have three kids so they really need a place where they can just relax and get away from it all. At the end of the day, a spa experience is coming their way, if I did my job right.

Martin: "Let's meet our homeowner Christina."

Christina: "Hi How are you? Help is here do not worry."

Martin: "So here we are in the master bath, tell me a bit about the space."

Christina: "Well first we didn't like it from the beginning, we have three kids, we are very busy we hardly take any vacations."

Martin: "What don't you like about the room?"

Christina: "We don't like the color of the countertops and we have not been able to accessorize, and the walls, it just doesn't match. We think that with something more romantic we can get away from the kids."

Martin: "I think I can at least I will try I will do my best. So you are off to work and when you come back hopefully we will have a romantic retreat for you and your husband."

Martin: "As you know accessories are the thing that really complete a room. do you think I have enough. we need to move onto step one and that is painting so lets get to it."

Martin: "The color that is on the wall right now resembles too much the countertops which is a color I know that Christina does not like. So I am going to change that all together by complete bathroom a khaki color."

Martin: "Ok guys the painting is done, first time it's ever taken me so little time. I and now I am going to perform a little bit of surgery on those cabinets design doctor, here I come."

DECO DESIGN TIP OF THE DAY:

Take a beach mat from the dollar store, some molding from your Home Depot store and a can of stain and you can embellish any door in your house and turn it into this. Let me show you how.

Martin: "Make it the dimensions you want to make on the panel insert. Then just get simple molding and place it right on top and with your handy dandy staple gun you can put it in place. once you are done put some masking tape around it and some stain and it becomes from this to this."

Martin: "The projects continue. Here is an inexpensive way to finish off mirrors like this. You don't have to take them down, it's going to be too expensive to do that. Just buy wood casing, you can stain or paint it and frame out the mirror yourself, In this case I spray painted it gold."

Martin: "Here is a really good tip paint the back black because once you hold the molding up against the wall, if you notice the reflection, it looks unfinished."

Martin: "Now it's just a matter of using liquid nails all the way on the edge, putting it in place, putting masking tape on it so it adheres to the mirror."

Martin: "I am so excited about this, it was the best find of the day, it's a bamboo ladder and it was only $20 dollars. As you can see I am using it as a towel rack, which is a great idea, but another way to use it, maybe in an office, is as a magazine rack."

Martin: "This will be the finishing touch that will give this retreat bathroom the wow factor, its a chandelier and it will hang here in the middle of the tub."

Martin: "When you hang something up that requires a lot of weight you want to use a toggle bolt so that is what we are using here because it anchors at the top of the dry wall it anchors really good."

Martin: "This is a toggle you stick it in the hole, it goes all the way up and just by twisting it like this, it locks."

Martin: "Ok guys, what started off as an eye sore this morning has become a beautiful exotic escape for the homeowners. all in one day I told you it would happen, have a little faith. The homeowners are here. let's see what they think.

Christina: "This is beautiful, very pretty, wow Martin."

Martin: "The bubble bath is already drawn for you."

Christina: "Wow, no kids allowed. I am speechless."

Who needs to spend money going to the spa after having a master bath like that huh, all they need is a masseuse now, but I think they can take care of that one their own.
