Room for Improvement: Kid's Room Makeover
It's always hard to know what to get your kids for the holidays. But if you want to make them the envy of the neighborhood, forget anything electronic. Instead, why not get them something they can really use - like a new bedroom. Here's Martin Amado with tonight's "Room for Improvement."
WSVN -- Well the holidays are approaching and its usually all about the little ones, so on this addition of "Room for Improvement" we are transforming a bedroom shared by two toddlers into a decorative yet functional space they can grow with through the years. Let's meet our homeowners and the kids.
Martin: "Hello!" "You must be Joey and Chris and Pillar. Hi, nice to meet you."
Martin: "Ok Pillar, I heard Joey and Chris's call for help for this room tell me a little about this space."
Pillar: "We have always had them together since they were born, they are 14 months apart and I did try to do the room and it just didn't work."
Martin: "You will be off to work and I will be here and I believe one kid is staying so I will be babysitting as well and I am going to get to work and when you come back hopefully you will love it and the kids will love it."
Martin: "Those malls are crazy with all the Christmas shopping already huh, well it's time to start unloading the car and get to work."
Martin: "Ok step one is we are painting but not the entire room, lucky for me, we are just adding a second color to make it pop and make it fun for the kids. So here is a tip, just paint three fourths of the way down and that will do the trick."
Martin:"And voila a beautiful straight line every time."
Deco Design Of The Day:
"Here is a tip for some extra storage, buy some brackets, a piece of wood and utilize the space above the window for some shelves and voila."
Martin: "What is really going to make this room special is the accessories, this being one of them."
Martin:"These are just little cut-outs that I found at a craft store for 99 cents."
Martin: "These are going to be peg hooks on the walls."
Martin: "Here is a great way to display your kids artwork as opposed to tacking your kid's art up on the wall just attach a string to two pegs and you have an instant wall art valance."
Martin: "If your not an artist don't freak out, cause now they make these applice's it' as easy as peel and stick and you have instant art for the walls."
Martin: "I found these great area rugs for 12.99,but if you don't want to use them that way, go ahead and put them up on the walls as great wall decor."
Martin: "Now let's give the room a cozy touch by making the beds."
Martin: "Bed before and bed after and remember save the plastic bag that the bedding comes in for toys, crayons, anything for that matter."
Martin: "Ok this is the last of it, just in time because I think the homeowner is already here."
Martin: "We did all of this is one day and for under 600. Let's see if the homeowners and the kids like it."
Martin: "Ok come in come in, the home owner is here and the kids. On the count of three."
Kid: "I like this."
Kid: "This is so cool."
Martin: "Do you guys like it?"
Kid: "Look how cute, it's a race track, you can put your cars on."
Martin: "More importantly the mom who is paying for all of this, what do you think."
Pillar: "It's awesome it's wow."
Martin: "You think your kids are going to be happy here for awhile."
Pillar: "Oh yeah, I will, I want to move it."
Martin: "Bye! A challenging space, but I think we got the job done. If I were a kid, I would love the room like that, until next week when me meet inside another RFI."
