Room for Improvement: Patio Makeover
In South Florida, almost every house has a patio. But not everyone knows how to get the best use of them. In tonight's "Room for Improvement," Martin Amado shows us how to transform the everyday patio into a functional, yet luxurious getaway for homeowners.
WSVN---On today's edition of "Room for Improvement" we're sprucing up a patio into a vacation hideaway for the homeowner. They have a beautiful view of their backyard, but their patio just isn't living up to it's potential.
Martin:"Room for Improvement." "Hey sage."
Sage:"Hey Martin how are you?
Martin:"Nice to meet you."
Martin:"I am here for the patio, where is the patio?"
Sage:"It's right back here."
Martin:"So how do you use your this now?"
Sage:"Right now we use it for BBQ's and just for all the toys, kind of a Storage area."
Martin:"Yeah I see that."
Sage:"Ultimately I would love to use it as a place where at the end of the night when the little one is in bed, we can come out here and have a glass of wine and relax."
Martin:"Any sort of direction or hints."
Sage:"I have been to Spain and I love the whole Spanish Moroccan style."
Martin:"Well what if I sort of bring you a little bit of that here?"
Sage:"I would love that. That would be so nice."
Martin:"Ok I have a lot of countries to visit today and bring it all here alright. So you are off to work and when you come back hopefully you will have the tropical oasis that you want."
Martin:"I traveled around the world and now I'm back and it's time to start decorating."
Martin:"The first thing we are going to do to make this space a romantic getaway is to add some inexpensive tiptop curtain panels. It's a great tip to dress up screen in patios that don't always look so great."
Martin:"All I am using is a cafe rod and tap top curtains and I am drilling right into the aluminum frame."
Martin:"I love this rod iron grill but right now it just kind of gets lost, an easy solution is to just add paint to the background to really make it pop."
Martin:"Before against the white it was plain boring and now when you punch it up with some color, it really comes alive."
DECO DESIGN TIP OF THE DAY:
"Just because it says bed canopy doesn't mean it can only go over a bed. Remember use them outdoors as I am doing especially over a bench for an instant resort like feel."
Martin:"For 15 bucks, you can't beat the wow factor it gives you."
Martin:"Ok all the major installation has been done so now it's time to load up the room."
Martin: "Well now the Buddha has a place to call home. So what do you think? What started off as a mix match for furniture a bit of country a bit of I don't' know has now turned in one day into a tropical paradise that I hope the homeowner likes."
Martin:"Here is the homeowner now."
Martin:"Open your eyes."
Sage:"Oh my gosh look at this, is this my porch."
Sage:" What do you think?"
Sage:"This is incredible, it's gorgeous."
Sage:"Do you love it?"
Daughter:"Yea." "I love it."
Sage:"Its like a tropical oasis. Look at that it's beautiful. Oh my god martin thank you."
