Room for Improvement: Teenage Room Makeover
A new room for a New Year. Tonight, our makeover maestro is at it again. In tonight's Room For Improvement, he's transforming a teenager's mess into a Martin Amado masterpiece.
WSVN-- Decorating a space doesn't always mean you have to start from scratch. If you have color and furniture pieces to work with, you have the basics. But you still need those finishing touches to put the look together… and that's exactly what a teenager's bedroom is screaming for in today's Room For Improvement.
Martin:"The homeowner wrote us wanting to surprise her daughter with a room to call her own. So here we are. Let's meet her. Is your daughter home?"
Nancy/Teen's Mother:"No she's not, come on in'
Martin:"Ok Nancy so you wrote us an e-mail wanting to surprise you're daughter Nancy with a room makeover and why is that?"
Nancy:"Well the family has been through a lot and Rachel has helped her dad, he is kinda sick and she's had this room and this furniture for a couple years and i just wanted to enhance it and have somewhere that she can call her own."
Martin:"She has no idea we are doing this right?"
Nancy:"No, No, idea."
Nancy:"She's is in school right? So when she comes home she is gong to have a brand new room."
Martin:"So you go to work and I have to go to work and I will see you in about 5 hours."
Martin:"Ok so while Rachel is in school I went shopping and I am going for a contemporary look for her room, so I hope I pass the test in her book."
Martin:"Ok the shopping is done, the first thing I'm going to do is a put up curtain. But to keep the look contemporary I'm using curtains rings to update the look."
Martin:"Ok the curtains are up and now it's time to rearrange the furniture, because as it is now, the room is much too cramped."
Deco design tip of the day:
"Cork boards are great especially in a teenagers room cause they can display stuff as opposed to tacking them on the walls, but they don't look so good. So a good idea is to paint them to match your décor."
Martin:"There you go it's all done now it brings color to this side of the room and it matches the accent wall."
Martin:"And now it's time to jazz up the bed."
Martin: "If you don't have a headboard or you have a low one like this try using a big wall art such as this to make the bed a focal point."
Martin:"These paper laterns are the final touch that will really give the room the wow factor and since they don't weigh very much, all you need is a teacup hook to put it in place."
Martin:"Ok the room is done, just in the knick of time because the daughter is about to arrive."
Martin:"What started off this morning as a disorganized room with a lot of clutter has transformed into a hip contemporary space that any teenager will like all for about 800 bucks."
Martin:"But let's have the mom take a sneak peak. Nancy come on in."
Nancy:"Oh my god, ow! I love it, oh I love this!"
Martin:"You think your daughter is going to love it?"
Nancy:"Oh yeah, shell love it."
Martin:"I think she is already here so let's wait for your daughter and see if she likes it too ok."
Martin:"This is your bedroom believe it or not, do you remember what it looked like this morning?Do you like it now, you sure, did I pass the test?"
Rachel:"Yes!"
Martin:"I didn't flunk or fail."
Rachel:"No."
Nancy:"This is all for you because you have been so good to your dad and I know it's been tough for you and I know you have done a lot."
Martin:"Bye guys, I am so relieved Rachel liked the room, it's not easy to figure out what a teenager is into now-a-days, but I think I passed the test with flying colors, I will give myself an A+ on that one. Happy new years guys. Take care until we find another room for improvement."
