PrintRoom for Improvement: Teenage Birthday Gift
Tonight, our makeover maestro is proving that when you blow out the candles, wishes do come true. His job this evening is giving a girl the birthday present she always wanted. Here's Martin Amado with "Room for Improvement."
WSVN -- We're working on a very special Room for Improvement today as we help a mom and dad surprise their daughter with a bedroom makeover just in time for her birthday! She's about to turn 13 this month, and they thought, hey, this would make a great birthday present, and you know what? I totally agree!
Martin: "Room for improvement
. Hi Guys .. How are you? The cake is ready for Dee Dee. Let's get to work. Nice to meet you too."Martin: "So this is Dee Dee's room. It's pretty nice. What don't you like.
Dee's mother: "It's plain, but I've run out of ideas. She's becoming a teenager and I'm like ok a pre-teen room."
Martin: "Ok We know Dee Dee loves pink! But I can't go overboard because her tastes might change in a couple of years! So, I decided to mix in some other colors such as blues and purples to give her room more into a teen's room."
Martin: "Ok Harold, you're helping me today which is awesome."
Martin's Magic
We have pink on this wall. Pink on that wall and we want to bridge the two walls together
. We're going to use a ribbon as a chair rail.Martin: "Ok Harold, now my personal opinion that a hutch like this over a desk looks a bit to juvenile. Plus it takes up much needed surface space. So what I want to do is remove the hutch and put it on the dresser."
Martin: "The desk is going to go on the other side, actually underneath the window and the bed is going to go in the center. So we're getting there."
Martin: "We're going to turn the desk into a vanity for Dee Dee by hanging the mirror right over it."
Martin: "These frames on the wall are OK, but we're going to turn them into something special. What we're gonna do is make it look as if the frames are suspended by ribbon."
Martin: "We'll just put a little thumbtack and voila."
Martin: "Last touch is the cake and the balloons. Now all we need is Dee Dee to come home and enjoy her surprise."
Martin: "Dee Dee's bedroom this morning did not match her personality. It appeared crowded by furniture and it needed to grow up in design. In one day and with a budget of less than $700.00, it has now become the perfect birthday present for a deserving teenager!"
Martin: "Surprise. I know your shocked but make a wish really quick and blow out the candles."
Dee Dee's mother: "This is adorable. This is wonderful. Happy birthday Dee Dee."
Martin: "Do you like it? Happy birthday."
Take care guys. Happy Birthday Dee Dee. It would've been very difficult to wrap Dee Dee's bedroom in a box to give as a birthday gift. But it's truly a unique present you know she won't ever forget. Plus she'll enjoy it every day! Glad we were able to make it happen. The cake's good, too! Take care!
