Room for Improvement: Guest Room Makeover
How many of us have a room in our house we're not sure what to do with. Tonight in "Room For Improvement," our makeover maestro gives a new purpose to a multipurpose room. Here's Martin Amado with more.
WSVN -- On today's "Room For Improvement," I am playing Design Doc to a multipurpose room that is just not working. Most of the time it is just an unused bedroom with no style or direction, but in one day we will give it a dose of design.
Martin: "Let's meet our homeowner and come to her rescue."
Shizette: "Hey Martin."
Martin: "Hey Nice to meet you."
Shizette: "Come on in."
Martin: "Ok Shizette, so this is your multipurpose room."
Shizette: "Yes this is my room where I want to come and relax and I also want to have a room that is functional."
Martin: "Why do you feel you couldn't do this on your own?"
Shizette: "We have been trying to decorate as we have been moving along. Each year a child is born, so things kind of happen so slow us down."
Martin: "I do understand that you have additional help for me today."
Shizette: "Yes I have a surprise for you. My husband Dave! You have him all day long. He is gonna come help you paint this room."
Martin: "I could use the Help Dave, Trust me."
Martin: "Ok Shizette so you are off to work, Dave and I will start working on making over this complete room for you and when you come back hopefully you will have the multipurpose room that you are looking for."
Martin: "Ok Dave, I am off to go shopping and I want you to put those muscles to work and clear out the room."
Martin: "Ok Dave, the first thing we are going to do is add some color to the room because the white walls just aren't working."
Martin: "Ok Dave this part of the painting is done and now lets move on to the accent wall."
Martin: "What we are going to do is create a square on this wall and make an accent wall and it's really going to make the room pop."
Martin: "Now there is a purpose as to why we painted this wall an accent color, that is because we are making the twin bed a day bed. Getting a headboard isn't really in our budget, so instead, we are creating one."
Martin: "This is the second part of creating the day bed look. we got rid of the Formica. It was outdated. So I actually found this fireplace screen for $60 dollars and i am going to use this as a headboard."
Martin: "Cool. Ok we are not done yet. We are going to make the bed and you are going to see how everything ties in."
Martin: "Now that the bed is made we can start with the furniture and the accessories. Move it in Dave."
Martin: "I found these three wicker baskets that offer great storage in the room. You can put toys in one, towels in another and linens on top. All three were only $50 dollars."
Martin: "Ok Dave, that goes right there and this goes here. So what do you think."
Dave: "It's great."
Martin: "You think your wife is going to like it, cause you know that is the true test."
Martin: "So can you believe what started off this morning as kind of a hodge podge of furntiture, outdated furniture as well no real true function and in one day, with your help of course, we have completely changed it for Shizette for like $800.00."
Martin: "So let's see if she likes it."
Martin: "Bring Shizette on in."
Shizette: "Oh my god, Martin, this is so nice. Thank you! OH my God."
Martin: "Now you have a reading area over there."
Martin: "You like it?"
Shizette: "I love it"
Martin: "I must say Dave was a big help!"
Martin: "Ok when are you going to do the rest of the house?"
Martin: "This is the first segment that we are doing this and we do have a surprise for you. Open up that drawer right there and take that out, it's the official "Room For Improvement" T-shirt, you are the first to have one. Enjoy it and thank your for letting us be a part of this makeover."
Shizette: "Thank you, bye Martin."
Martin: "I think I will call this room Global Modern. What do you think? A bit of an exotic flare with a twist of contemporary with the use of bold color. An eclectic mix that works. So don't be afraid to try new designs in your own home."
Until next week, when we find another room in need of Deco Aide!
