Finding a new home is challenging on its own, but then you have to figure out how to decorate. Tonight, our makeover maestro Martin Amado is stepping in to give a young couple a helping hand with creating a new design for their home.

WSVN -- Martin Amado: "On today's Room for Improvement, we're helping a young couple start the year off with a new living room design so that it makes a great first impression as soon as they walk through the front door. Let's go meet them."

Martin Amado: "So Michelle and Seth, this is your first home. First time home buyers, and you guys are so young. How does that feel?"

Michelle: "It's pretty exciting."

Martin Amado: "So tell me about your space right now?"

Martin Amado: "We still have all of our boxes out, and we're just trying to figure out how to fit everything in."

Martin Amado: "So what's your budget?"

Michelle: "Well, we have a $500 gift certificate from El Dorado furniture, and we also have some gift certificates from Bed Bath and Beyond."

Martin Amado: "So I'm going to take those with me shopping, and we're going to surprise both of you at the end."

Martin Amado: "One of the challenges that we face today is that we have uneven windows. The other thing is that the living room just needs a better function as a whole, so I found the perfect solution in their office space, believe it or not, and you'll see that coming up later. First, let's clear out all the clutter."

Martin Amado: "Aww, the good old days. Reminders about being back in school, huh?"

Martin Amado: "Look at what a difference the curtain panels make in the room already. Right now, the problem that I have with this wall is that the window is actually smaller, so a quick fix is to extend the curtain rod and make it the same width as the larger window."

Martin Amado: "Now, we have the perfect symmetry. The window looks much larger, and we picked up the blue accent color from the toss pillows."

Martin Amado: "An aquarium in the living room, nice, but I found something better. Let's get rid of this."

Martin Amado: "So with the $500 gift card from El Dorado, I purchased this modern plasma television base, but the best part is it has accent lighting."

Martin Amado: "If you're using an ottoman as a coffee table, its always nice to place an over-sized tray on top with some spheres, possibly some coffee table books, and that way it just integrates it with the rest of the room's decor."

Martin Amado: "I couldn't find two large scale prints to fill up this wall, so what I did is I bought two identical ones, rotated one of the images, and now I have two completely different looks."

Martin Amado: "All right, we're done. Seth and Michelle have a brand new living space. I hope they like it."

Martin Amado: "This morning Seth and Michelle's living room wasn't being used. By bringing the flat screen TV into the space and spending their gift cards wisely, we gave them a functional and stylish room for 1,500."

Martin Amado: "Here we go. One, two, three. Go ahead and open your eyes."

Michelle: "Whoa, this looks like a different house."

Martin Amado: "All right, so we wish you much happiness in your first home together, and to all the viewers, thanks for watching. We'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
