Room for Improvement: Home Entrance
For some, walking into a beautiful home entrance brings a sense of joy, so tonight, our makeover maestro, Martin Amado is back to help one couple design a new area with some extra love.
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "On today's Room for Improvement, we are giving this front entrance more curb appeal. As you can tell, there's nothing going on, and the best part is, it's also a special Valentine's Day gift from a husband to his wife. Let's go meet him."
Martin Amado: "Tell me about your front entrance here?"
Randy: "Well, as you can see, it's very bare and plain, and I hear all the time from the wife, so I thought Valentine's was a good opportunity to surprise her."
Martin Amado: "You called the right guy. What's your wife's name?"
Randy: "Nora, Norita."
Martin Amado: "OK, so a special Valentine's Day gift for Norita."
Martin Amado: "We're working with a huge front entrance, so just placing a few plants down is not going to cut it. I'm thinking a beautiful bench on this wall, a water feature and some other decorative elements will make this space more inviting. Let's go get the stuff."
Martin Amado: "What's nice about a teak bench is that it weathers beautifully outdoors, or if you want to maintain its current finish, just add a finish such as teak oil."
Martin Amado: "I love using lanterns in an outdoor setting, but if you use a regular wax candle with the South Florida heat, you know what happens, right? They melt, so a good suggestion to avoid that is to use a votive jar instead."
Martin Amado: "Now let's add the relaxing sound of water, and we have water folks, awesome."
Martin Amado: "Time to do some planting."
Martin Amado: "If you've been shopping for monogrammed doormats, they tend to be very expensive, so I decided to make my own and save some money."
Martin Amado: "I printed out the initial from my computer, I cut it out and then I have a stencil and using some black spray paint, I transfer the letter directly to the doormat."
Martin Amado: "All right, so the finishing touch are some toss pillows for the bench. Let's see what Randy thinks, first of all."
Randy: "Wow, is this the same house?"
Martin Amado: "Is your wife Nora going to like it?"
Randy: "She's going to love it."
Martin Amado: "This morning the front entrance was not very welcoming. By adding a bench, plants and a beautiful water feature, the home now makes a great first impression for under $500. An Awesome Valentine's Day gift."
Nora: "What is this? Oh, my God."
Martin Amado: "I'm Martin from Channel 7's Room for Improvement. Your husband contacted us for a front entrance makeover.
Nora: "I love it. It's about time."
Martin Amado: "Courtesy of Channel Seven, happy Valentine's Day to you as well. To you guys at home, thanks for watching. We wish you a happy Valentine's Day, and until next time on Room for Improvement."
