All Room for Improvement

Getting pampered is all about relaxation, and that means the room must set the mood. So tonight, our makeover maestro Martin Amado is helping one woman turn her space into a relaxing mini getaway.

WSVN -- Martin Amado: "As you know, visiting a beauty salon can become a monthly ritual, a place to maintain the look and of course get pampered, so on today's Room for Improvement, we're helping an esthetician create the perfect spa experience for her clients, and I believe we have an appointment, so let's go meet her."

Martin Amado: "Hi, Aruna, how are you?

Martin Amado: "OK, Aruna so I hear you're the best at what you do, so tell me what you don't like about the room right now."

Aruna: "Martin, this room is so small, and especially when I do my facials and my threading."

Martin Amado: "Now, you are switching to a bigger room."

Aruna: "Yeah, a little bit bigger than this. I'm recycling some of the stuff that you use already."

Martin Amado: "So this is the new room that Aruna is moving into. Now, before we can begin working on the decorative elements, we have to worry about the function of the room first. As you can tell, she needs lots of storage, so a cost effective solution is to install these bathroom cabinets up on the main wall."

Martin Amado: "So now, with the bathroom cabinets up, I'm going to give it the look of a built in by adding this display ledge right here in the very center."

Martin Amado: "A smart tool tip to hang anything that has two brackets, such as this shelf, is to use a level with movable slides that allows you to pinpoint exactly the location. Then, you can transfer the measurement directly to the wall."

Martin Amado: "Now, I wanted to soften the look of the walls and give the entire room more of a zen feeling, so the trick is to use sheer curtain panels and create a striping effect as well."

Martin Amado: "Aruna's posters look a bit dated with the gold frame, so a quick fix is to swap it out for a more contemporary look."

Martin Amado: "All right, we can finally bring Aruna's equipment into the room."

Martin Amado: "There we go. I had this cover custom made for Aruna's bed, and it's machine washable, so it's super durable, and at the end of the day she can put all her dirty towels in this storage ottoman and it still looks great. I hope she likes the transformation."

Martin Amado: "This morning, Aruna worked in a tight space that lacked any style. Now in the new room, however, we've created a beautiful and relaxing ambiance where she can continue pampering her clients all for under $600."

Aruna: "My God, look at this. There is no way I compare with anything."

Martin Amado: "Enjoy your space. Thank you so much for letting us do this for you. To all viewers, thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
