Room for Improvement: Teacher's Lounge

WSVN -- Room for Improvement has partnered with the PTA here at Nova Eisenhower Elementary School in Davie, Florida, to help them transform their teachers lounge. Let's go see the space.

Martin Amado: "So, Leslie is with the school's PTA, and she contacted Channel Seven. Tell me about the teachers lounge.

Leslie Glazer, Vice President, Nova Eisenhower PTA: "Well, the teachers came to the PTA and asked if we would redo their lounge or paint it, and I said to myself, I have a better idea, let's redo the entire lounge."

Martin Amado: "And Ms. Lesser is the school's principal. How does it feel that the PTA wants to do this not only for the school in general but for the teachers?

Mrs. Carol Lesser, Principal: "We're so excited. The teachers don't know yet. It's a surprise for them."

Martin Amado: "At the moment, the teachers lounge has a European Bistro like feel, but it's not working for the space. It's a bit too crowded. The furniture is worn, and the colors are way too dark, so we're going to swap everything out and lighten up the entire space."

Martin Amado: "As I went shopping, we had the walls primed. Now it's about adding a new paint color. We're picking up the minty green from the tiles on the main walls, and then our accent color will be this beautiful blue to make the room pop."

Martin Amado: "The PTA also got the teachers a new refrigerator for the lounge, so it's a bonus gift for them as well."

Martin Amado: "I needed to find some inexpensive artwork that matched the new color scheme for the lounge, so the solution is to frame this beautiful gift wrapping paper."

Martin Amado: "And there you go. The frame was only $19, so for like $22 I have myself artwork for the walls."

Martin Amado: "Because the teacher's lounge is used daily, I'm using outdoor fabric on the seat cushions and also the toss pillows because it is thicker and more durable."

Martin Amado: "And the final touch is a letter of gratitude the PTA wrote to the teachers here at Nova Eisenhower Elementary and also to mark this day when the lounge got a new look. I hope they like it."

Martin Amado: "This morning the teachers lounge appeared dated and drab, but thanks to the PTA we re-did the entire space to make it look more modern and stylish for under $1,100. The teachers deserve it, and I hope they like it."
