Pinching pennies and getting the look of designer styles might seem impossible .. but that's not the case for makeover maestro, martin amado. Tonight, he's showing us how to think out side the box when shopping for furniture, lighting or decorative accessories.

WSVN -- Martin Amado: "If you're a bargain shopper like me, that means we have to hit clearance centers, garage sales, even flea markets, and on today's Room for Improvement, we're adding another great place to that list and that's the Habitat Re-Store in Fort Lauderdale. Let's go check it out."

Martin Amado: "Hi Nancy."

Nancy Daly: "Hi Martin, good to see you."

Martin Amado: "So I love that we can save money while we are shopping here at the same time its for a good cause."

Nancy Daly: I love that you're shopping here to save money too. Yes, all of our proceeds go towards building homes fro Habitat for Humanity in Broward County."

Martin Amado: "And for a designer like me, obviously its a gold mine because there are so many things that I can see right now that I can use, save money, maybe refurbish a little bit."

Nancy Daly: "I can see you camped out here."

Martin Amado: "Yeah, definitely. So, tell you what, let me take a look around, see what I can find and share with our viewers some great tips."

Nancy Daly: "Make yourself at home. If you need anything at all let me know."

Martin Amado: "Thank you Nancy."

Martin Amado: "So, let's say you are looking for a sofa for your living room. I love the clean lines this one has, but of course, we're not too crazy about the pattern. Now, its only $200, so remember, a slip cover can work wonders or with the money you are saving, you can also get it reupholstered."

Martin Amado: "At the Re-Store, you can get everything from furniture to light fixtures, and even though most of the items have been gently used, it doesn't mean you have to use it for the same purpose. For example, here we a light fixture and I'm going to show you how to turn it into a candle holder, and its only $10."

Martin Amado: "So, the first thing we want to do is remove all the cable wires because obviously we're not going to need them."

Martin Amado: "Now, we're just unscrewing the socket."

Martin Amado: "Lets go see what else I can find."

Martin Amado: "Thinking outside the box here. These are two kitchen cabinets, but I'm thinking we can use them as basis to place a door on top or even a piece of plywood and we can use it as a desk."

Martin Amado: "Another great find are these accent tiles. They're only 50 cents each and I'm thinking we can use them as wall art. If we take a shadow box frame. They sell them here too for only $5 by the way, we glue them inside and we can turn this into a beautiful modern day installation in any wall."

Martin Amado: "Wow. I love these tiles. Its made out of ceramic, but it gives you look of slate."

Martin Amado: "I'm using this tile not on the floor, but on a dining table as a charger. What you first want to do is instal some felt pads on each of the corners to protect the table from getting scratched. Once you add your place setting on it, it looks very sleek and modern."

Martin Amado: "So whether you're remodeling or decorating, looking for individual furniture pieces or simply accessories, the Habitat Re-Store in Fort Lauderdale is a great place to shop. Just remember, put your design skills to the test and use your creativity to create something special of your own. I'm Martin Amado and I'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."

Keep in mind all the merchandise at the Habitat for Humanity Re-store changes daily.
