Room for Improvement: Office Reception

Archived Reports:

All Room for Improvement

We know Martin Amado can make any house feel comfortable and contemporary. But tonight, he's facing his newest challenge; instead of decorating a home, he's been asked to decorate the reception area of a realty office. Here's tonight's Room For Improvement.

Martin Amado: "As you can see the backdrop is not the typical neighborhood on today's room for improvement, we're working on our first commercial project as we help a new realty office create a welcoming reception area for their clients."

Hey guys good morning how are you? This is a great place you have here.

Martin: "So tell me about the office what the plans are the business."

Pretty much what we're trying to do is open up a new facility here. We opened a real estate office."

We are looking for some help on designing our office so it's more homey looking for people that are coming in, clients.

Eventhough we are working in a business environment the goal with this makeover is to incorporate elements that remind you of being home. So instead of seeing this as a reception area, in my eyes it's a living room and that makes a great first impression.

First up let's dress up all this windows to create more coziness in this space.

Design Direction:

The shades are up but I'm not finished. I'm adding panels on the sides for added texture and a more elegant look.

Martin's Magic:

Here's a great tip to finish off a plain looking shade, take a simple curtain ring and just attach it to the bottom.

You can never go wrong with a beautiful mirror above a sofa as a focal point so that's exactly what we're gonna do.

Cheap Fix:

Corkboards have come a long way. Now they make this beautiful frame ones that look just like wall art so especially in an office setting like this, it works really well.

Once you have your wall art leveled, to keep it from moving in the future go ahead and use these little rubber bumpers, place them on the corner to keep in in place.

Accessories on a desk are the finishing touch. Just like you have throws and toss pillows on a living room sofa, you really need it to complete the look.

Final touch is a whimsical card holder and we are now officially open for business.

This morning we found an office space with an uninviting reception area and in one day we gave it all the comforts of a home setting that make a great first impression everytime a client walks through the door.

Martin: "One, two, two and a half, three."

"Wow, oh my god."

Martin you did it, this is great, it's beautiful, oh my god I got goosebumps.

Martin: "In real state you usually fall in love with a home from the moment you see it and with an office setting looking like this now, I think they are ready to seal the deal. I will see you guys next week."
