All Room for Improvement

If you know somebody with a lot of collectables, you know it can be tough to display their prized possessions. But in tonight's Room For Improvement, Martin Amado shows us there is a way to make even the most cluttered space look classy.

If you know somebody with a lot of collectables, you know it can be tough to display their prized possessions. But in tonight's Room For Improvement, Martin Amado shows us there is a way to make even the most cluttered space look classy.

Martin: "One today's room for improvement, we are boldly going where noone has gone before. We're tackling our first loft space and incorporating sci-fi and sports memorabilia in the overall design plan. I know it's hard to believe, but I'm going to make it work."

Martin: "What's seems to be the problem here?"

Mike: "I have a lot of stuff just haven't had the time to make it look right."

Martin: "I see alot of Trekie items?"

Mike: "Yeah, a lot of collectibles. It's like my two hobbies."

There wasn't a lot of stuff to purchase because obviously the loft has all the furniture in place. We just need to rearrange it. Add some decorative accessories to pull the look together.

We have to be really careful with all this memorabilia.

By placing the small book case here. We are filling up the empty hallway and at the same time it helps use tie this space by combining the same wood tones in the furniture.

Design Direction

These taupe curtains pick up on the area rug downstairs and when you have an open space it's important to maintain consistence in the color scheme.

Cheap Fix

Two small end tables make a great coffee table.

So far we've done a pretty good job incorporating the sports theme in the design will now this throw a little too much. So let's get rid of this for a much luxurious one.

Martin's Magic

Now another thing we did was we broke up the pattern in the sofa by adding some solid toss pillows and by bringing the patten over to the accent chair it just helps to unify the seating arrangement.

I want to give some height to Mike's collectibles so in order to do that i'm going to take some wall shelves and basically use them as pedestal.

Let's put the remote back for Mike's new command center and we're done.

This morning we found a guy's domain with collectibles scattered about and no real design plan to unify the look but now we have a stylish loft that even Mike's wife will enjoy spending time in all for a budget of under 6 hundred dollars.

Martin: "One, two, three...open your eyes."

Mike: "This looks like a completely different room. This is amazing."

Martin: "Well did you have any doubts. Now the loft area is prefect showcase for all the collectibles and the entire space blends with the rest of the home's decor."
