Room for Improvement: Playground
Archived Reports:
Every child deserves a place to play. But tonight, we're surprising one little girl who's been battling leukemia. Matin Amado is granting her wish for a backyard makeover in Room For Improvement.
WSVN--Today's Room for Improvement is truly a special one. Back in October of last year we featured Bianca's playroom on the segment, what you didn't know was she was going through treatment for leukemia.
Now, I'm happy to report she's doing much better and because of that we want to surprise her with a backyard makeover so that she has both an interior and extrerior space where she can just kick back and be kid after everything she's gone through."
Martin: "Now, when you're dealing with so much space these small accessories just don't cut it but we enlisted the help of playground services to make it happen. Hey. Mike."
Mike: "We heard Bianca's story. She's a nice little girl that has some illnesses that we felt we should give her some happiness in her life."
So while Mike and his crew are busy as we you see, I'll be taking care of the backdrop. I'm using some paint and I'm creating the illusion of a picket fence. Once, I take off the tape I have my picket fence.
Martin: "Wow, Mike. This looks amazing."
Mike - "Well, Martin. On behalf of playground services we hope Bianca has a lot of healthy fun on this swing set through the years."
Martin - "Thank you."
Now, we just need the stringers to tie all the individual boards together.
Design Direction
Now, we want to create a whimisical garden for Bianca. I'm going to take a garden hose and basically shape and free from design on the ground and then from there we just have to remove the sod.
Martin's Magic
So we got rid of the sod, thanks for your help with that. Now, we are basically going to make a bird haven and we are going to incorporate a bird bath using a plant saucer and a plant stand.
Cheap Fix
Here's a great way to save money. Buy the plants in a small state. They are less expensive when you purchase them and eventually they will get bigger.
Some mice right here to keep watch over the garden and the playground and we are officailly done.
This morning an empty and lonely backyard did not inspire a little girls imagination but in one we created an enchanted playground that Bainca can enjoy each and every day.
Martin: "One, two, three, open your eyes."
Loudes: "Oh, my gosh."
Martin: "We want to thank a lot of people. Renee and Lourdes for helping me make this happen today as well as playground services for donanating this awesome playset for Bianca. And in a way it's kind of like a Mother's Day gift as well it's three generations of women so with that in mind what a great gift to give to Bianca. From all of us here, another Room for Improvement folks, till next time."
