Room for Improvement: Small Bedroom
Have a small bedroom but just can't seem to make it work with all your stuff? Well just because it's small doesn't mean it can't be stylish. Tonight our makeover maestro is helping one home owner achieve just that.
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "On today's Room for Improvement we're coming up with some storage solutions for small space living. I'm helping a homeowner create a more relaxing retreat inside her bedroom, so let's go check it out."
Martin: "Room for Improvement. Hi, Gloria, good morning. Nice to meet you."
Martin: "OK, Gloria, so tell me what's happening in your bedroom right now?"
Gloria: "Well, basically, Martin, as you can see, I just moved in here with my two kids. It's a very small space, but the kids have taken over."
Martin: "So you have storage issues, and, at the end, you want it to be a stylish space as well, correct?"
Gloria: "Yes, a beautiful place."
Martin: "Awesome, I'm going to work on that for you and make it happen."
Martin: "So the goal today is to give this bedroom a more modern and sophisticated style and bring in additional furniture pieces that can offer Gloria more storage as well."
Martin: "More toys."
SMALL WONDER
Now, here's a great tip. Sometimes when you have a lot of wood furniture in the bedroom it can make the space feel kind of heavy, so the trick is to switch out the headboard to an upholstered piece. Adding a soft texture in the space."
CHEAP FIX
All right, so before we make the bed with this bed-in-a-bag set, which saves on the budget obviously. Let's go a head and give this tired and sort-of hard mattress, a more luxurious softer feel, and we're going to do that with this featherbed."
Martin: "Like sleeping on a cloud."
Martin: "Now, whenever you use this, it does increase the thickness of the mattress, so make sure you buy sheets that have deep-fitted corners."
Martin: "So now this chest doubles as a nightstand for Gloria and additional storage space for all of her kids' toys as well."
MARTIN'S MAGIC
So, because we don't have enough room for a dresser, this small ledge gives Gloria space just to display her perfumes or any lotion she might have.
Martin: "So with these plastic and clear containers, we can organize toys or DVDs inside the armoire and use a larger container to store clothes underneath the bed."
Martin: "Perfect, and the final touch is just simply removing sticker from these closet doors. Much better, right? I hope Gloria likes her new bedroom."
This morning the bedroom was plain and didn't offer much storage. By adding furniture pieces that are multi-functional we now created a stylish space for Gloria, for under $1,000."
Martin: "Open your eyes."
Gloria: "Wow, Martin, it's beautiful. I love the colors. I didn't know you could make this room look like this."
Martin: "You actually have furniture now, Gloria."
Gloria: "Yes, I do."
Martin: "Are you going to let your kids come in the bedroom?"
Gloria: "No more. This is all me."
Martin: "Well, thanks for watching. We'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
