All Room for Improvement

After a long day at work, there's no place like home, and the key to relaxing at home is a comfortable master suite. Our makeover maestro's giving a couple the room of their dreams in Room for Improvement.

WSVN -- Martin Amado: "We're capturing the feeling of a vacation retreat on today's Room for Improvement, as we turn a bare master bedroom into a beautiful master suit. Let's go meet the homeowners."

Martin Amado: "All right, guys, this is an awesome space that you have here, but I know that you have some issues with the way it looks right now, correct?"

Sandy: "It just looks so blah."

Martin Amado: "So it's basically like designing for the sexes on Room for Improvement. All right, you know how this works. I'm going to get to work, and hopefully it will be the space of your dreams."

Martin Amado: "The goal with this makeover is to have a comfortable sitting area for Brent, and, at the same time, a beautiful master bedroom for Sandy, so I'm taking my design inspiration from the existing animal print bedding."

TOOL TIP:

Now, by using panels along with these textured blinds, it gives the windows more dimensions and helps to highlight a global style.

SMALL WONDER:

Now, notice that because we already have a print on the comforter, I'm keeping most of the toss pillows in a solid color just to blend visually better to the eye, and, of course, the blue picks up on the color on the walls.

Martin Amado: "All right, we already have this half of the room complete, so now let's work on the sitting area."

DESIGN DIRECTION:

Just by moving this sofa forward, we created two areas within this one master bedroom and now you can actually appreciate the bed.

Martin Amado: "Mounting a flat screen on the wall looks great, but, at the same time, it creates an empty space right underneath."

Martin Amado: "Perfect, now with this media cabinet we now have a place to store all the electrical components, books and at the same time it ties the flat screen with the rest of the room's decor."

Martin Amado: "I love this rug."

Martin Amado: "Take a look around, you would say we're almost done, right? Oh, no because, in my book, there's still a little bit more, because we're creating a luxury hotel feel. Let's get the other stuff."

Martin Amado: "A small sitting bench on this side, and a surprise element on the other side."

Martin Amado: "So, by adding a writing desk on this side of the room, I think we truly captured that vacation retreat."

Martin Amado: "This morning, Sandy and Brent felt something was missing from their bedroom decor. By dividing the room into separate areas for seating and sleeping, reading and relaxing, we now created an experience for them similar to a five star hotel."

Martin Amado: "You like your master suite now?"

Sandy: "Yeah, I love it."

Martin Amado: "Now, you kind of have, like, your own little living room area right over here. All right, guys, well, thank you so much for watching, enjoy your bedroom, and we'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
