Room for Improvement: Living Room
If you like decorating your home, but you're a little afraid of taking chances with color, it's OK. Tonight, our makeover maestro is showing us how add a splash of color to your space. It's Martin's latest makeover in "Room for Improvement."
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "When we first buy a new home, we tend to make neutral color choices so that we can move in right away. Then, once we live in the home for a couple of months, we find that everything is a bit too boring. Well, on today's Room for Improvement, I'm going to show you how to work beige into a new color scheme to make everything pop."
Martin Amado: "All right Luis, so this is a brand new home for you guys. You moved from a smaller space to a much bigger home, and I know it's a bit of a challenge for you to decorate it."
Luis: "We have vaulted ceilings, and it's very difficult to handle for me. My wife and I, we really like your work."
Martin Amado: "So I have some ideas. Luis, let me get to work, and I'll surprise you in the end."
Martin Amado: "The first thing this living room needs is more contrast, so achieve that by painting this beautiful accent wall in a caramel color. It makes the entertainment unit stand out and adds more warmth in the space."
Martin Amado: "What's nice about starting off with a neutral base is that any color you add will work."
Martin Amado: "Now with the window treatments up, we can concentrate on the main living area. I want to bring in the red from the new curtain panels down onto the floor with a new area rug, and then switch out the furniture layout."
Martin Amado: "Hey, I found money."
Martin Amado: "Dividing the sectional in two fills up the space better."
Martin Amado: "By adding two accent chairs for only $129 each, the living room has a new grouping."
Martin Amado: "Now, these were the cubes that Luis was using as a coffee table before. They make much better end tables."
Martin Amado: "This half wall divides the entrance from the main living room, and it needs the right accessory, and I found just the piece. We're done. I hope Luis likes it."
Martin Amado: "Let's face it. This morning, the living room was very one-dimensional. We made the neutral color scheme work by adding red as the main accent in all the accessories, and suddenly, the room took on a whole new level of style."
Martin Amado: "One, two, three. Go ahead and open your eyes."
Luis: "Wow. It's amazing. It's beautiful."
Martin Amado: "Well, I know your wife is traveling. She couldn't be here with you, but I know you'll surprise her for me."
Luis: "Definitely."
Martin Amado: "Thank you so much for allowing us to come into your home and to make over your living room. To all the viewers, we thank you for watching, and we'll see you next time on another 'Room for Improvement.'"
