Room for Improvement: Toddler Room
If you are a parent, you know how quickly your little one goes from infant to toddler. So, on tonight's Room For Improvement, our makeover maestro, Martin Amado, is helping one lucky family give their baby boy a more grown up room.
Martin Amado: "Most parents eventually face this dilemma: how to transition their toddler from their nursery space into their new bedroom. We'll show you how on today's Room For Improvement as we create a space for Jacob, with room to grow."
Martin Amado: "Jacob's mom already bought the furniture for the bedroom, but take a look around...it's still lacking any decor. The goal for today is to create a magical environment that would make Jacob want to sleep here, and I'm thinking a sports theme is the way to go."
Martin Amado: "I found this table set for only $20 at a thrift store, and as you can see, the surface does have some minor damage, but it's nothing a bit of chalkboard paint won't fix."
Martin Amado: "By creating a grid in the very center of this table and applying the chalkboard paint, we have the perfect space where Jacob can get creative."
Martin Amado: "If you have the bedroom space, a good tip is to invest in a full-size bed instead of a twin. This way, it will carry your child all the way through the high school years."
Martin Amado: "I bought these canvas prints for only $4 each, a great buy, aAnd even though it's going to look great on its own, I wanted to make it look a bit more special, so I invested another $6 buy buying these mats. And what I'm basically going to do is place them right behind the canvas prints, and it's going to give it a lot more dimension."
Martin Amado: "I'm first attaching the mat directly onto the wall by placing these velcro strips on the back."
Martin Amado: "Here's a great way to decorate the facade of the furniture without any commitment. I found these foam shapes with our sports theme; how about that? And the idea is to go ahead and place them right behind our existing handle."
Martin Amado: "It looks great. The best part is, a pack of twelve is only $3, and if Jacob ever gets tired of this theme, you can easily swap them out."
Martin Amado: "And the final touch is the personalized pillow that was here this morning, but now it looks much better in the completed room. Let's go get Jacob."
Martin Amado: "This morning, Jacob's bedroom had all the basic furniture pieces, but it lacked any decor. By incorporating the sports theme, we now have the perfect environment that's a home run, a slam dunk, a touch down and a goal. I hope Jacob likes it."
Martin Amado: "Here we go. This is the star of the bedroom."
Martin Amado: "One, two, three! Open your eyes!"
Martin Amado: "Do you love it?"
Jacob: "Yes, I love it."
Martin Amado: "Cool! Yay! We thank you for watching and we'll see you next time on another Room...
Jacob: "Room."
Martin Amado: "For..."
Jacob: "For."
Martin Amado: "Improvement!"
Jacob: "Improvement."
Jacob: "Bye."
