Room for Improvement: Guest Room
If you happen to have a spare room in your house and don't know what to do with it, don't worry. Tonight, our makeover maestro, Martin Amado, is here to show us how to get a room ready for any summer guests all in one day.
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "We all know that South Florida is a big tourist attraction during the summer months, which means that some of you may have out of town family and friends that want to visit to enjoy the sun, the sand and the beaches as well. So, on today's Room for Improvement we are getting that guest bedroom ready for their trip to paradise."
Martin Amado: "This is the space we're working in today and the makeover is inspired by the beach. We already have this soothing, pale blue color on the walls, which of course reminds us of water right? The next step is to bring in the furniture."
Martin Amado: "Now, you want your guests to feel comfortable at all times, so in case they get chilly during the night, a good alternative to a comforter which might be to think and too hot is a quilt."
Martin Amado: "So, I added the bamboo curtain shades for the texture because it does remind me of the outdoors, and then the fabric panels on either side just give it an extra touch of elegance."
Martin Amado: "So, we have one night stand on that side of the room and typically we would use another one over here . But, because we're creating a hotel suit experience in this guest bedroom I have something a bit unconventional."
Martin Amado: "I know what your think, a desk in the bedroom, but bare with me I'll be right back."
Martin Amado: "So, by adding an upholstered chair to a typical desk it completely changes the look. Now, we have a multi functional piece of furniture."
Martin Amado: "Keep in mind, you don't always have to hang artwork. In this case, leaning it against the wall looks just as dramatic."
Martin Amado: "Now, even though we are inspired by the beach, it doesn't mean we have to be so literal. In this case, this grouping of artwork gives us an outdoor feeling, but in a modern way. I love how it looks."
Martin Amado: "It's best not to crowd a guest bedroom with too much furniture, so this chest of drawers is all we need."
Martin Amado: "And the finishing touch is this upholstered ottoman that not only provides additional seating, but a convenient place for guests to put their luggage. Just like a hotel, love it."
Martin Amado: "All right, so this morning we started with an empty room and inspired by a coastal style we created a relaxing retreat where your guests can now feel at home. I think the only problem is going to be they'll never want to leave, so they might over extend their welcome. Until next time, I'm Martin Amado for Room for Improvement."
