Room for Improvement: Multi-Purpose Room
If you have a spare bedroom in your home and are not sure of what to do with it, our makeover maestro, Martin Amado, is here to show us. He's creating a zen room to relax, entertain and accommodate guests, all on tonight's Room for Improvement.
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "On today's Room for Improvement, we are decorating a multi-purpose room, a space the homeowner can use year-round and also doubles as the perfect guest bedroom. Let's get to work."
Martin Amado: "When you're dealing with a small room like this one, the scale of the furniture is very important, which is the reason the sleeper sofa is the perfect fit. It has a compact size, and it looks great in the room."
Martin Amado: "We have a very neutral backdrop to work with, so my design inspiration is to create a very zen, tropical room so that it becomes a mini escape from the stresses of everyday life. Let's begin with the window treatments."
Martin Amado: "By switching out the old curtain rod with this one, that if you notice it matches the espresso finish in the furniture, we have a more cohesive design. So remember, it's all in the details."
Martin Amado: "Measure twice, nail once."
Martin Amado: "So by adding in additional textures, like in this lamp, we give the room the exotic look we're going for."
Martin Amado: "I found these nesting tables in another room in the house. So remember, when decorating and you want to save money, it's always best to recycle pieces from other places."
Martin Amado: "It's perfect for my Buddha. Very zen."
Martin Amado: "A 5-by-8 area rug would have been too big for this space, so by buying two smaller ones and connecting them as one, we have the perfect dimensions."
Martin Amado: "You can't even tell there's a seam."
Martin Amado: "This ottoman is perfect, because if they ever want to use the sleeper sofa as an actual bed, they can simply just push it out of the way."
Martin Amado: "All right guys, the finishing touch, and our zen room is done."
Martin Amado: "So take a look around. We created a serene ambiance by sticking to a monochromatic color scheme, but it still has contrast with the richer espresso woods and textures that we added. Now, we have a multi-purpose rom that the homeowner can feel comfortable in, in addition to his guests. For Room for Improvement, I'm Martin Amado. I'll see you next time."
