Room for Improvement: Bedroom
It feels like New Years was yesterday, and if your still trying to give your home a fresh new look for 2012 our makeover maestro, Martin Amado is here to show us some design tricks. Let's see how he redesigns a young woman's bedroom on tonight's Room for Improvement.
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "The New Year is all about giving your life a fresh, new start and you can actually do the same with your home decor. So, on today's Room for Improvement I'm going to show you how some simple changes can make a big difference."
Martin Amado: "All right so tell me what you don't like about your bedroom right now?"
Kristina: "Right now, its very plain. It's white, blue. I kind of started it off and then I couldn't make any decisions. I couldn't do anything."
Martin Amado: "So, we just want to pull it all together so go to work and we'll surprise you at the end of the day."
Martin Amado: "Kristina has many photo frames, but no where to put them, so I thought these picture ledges are perfect for her. I'm also, adding this wider shelf right above the dresser to give her more display surfaces too."
Martin Amado: "New art work will refresh the look of any room and we save money by making our own, by simply framing these pre bought prints. Looks nice huh?"
Martin Amado: "When installing curtain panels, don't be limited by the actual height of the window, go above it, almost all the way to the ceiling and you create a more dramatic focal point in the space."
Martin Amado: "Just make sure that you buy longer panels, so that the fabric touches the floor. In this case I used 95 inches."
Martin Amado: "Because we already have dark walls, I choose a light bedding, so that the room doesn't feel quite heavy."
Martin Amado: "When you lay down a new area rug, typically the edges tend to curl up, so the solution is roll it up backwards and this way, we reshape it."
Martin Amado: "I want to add a graphic element on this wall and the easiest way to do that is by installing decals."
Martin Amado: "This morning, the bedroom had the basic elements to begin the makeover. All it needed were some accent pieces, like a night stand, shelving, wall art and of course all the decorative accessories to bring it all together and give it a brand new look for less than $500."
Martin Amado: "Go ahead, open your eyes."
Kristina: "Oh, my God. It's beautiful."
Martin Amado: "Is it what you wanted?"
Kristina: "Yes. Completely 100 percent. Wow."
Martin Amado: "Thank you so much for letting us do this for you. It was our pleasure and to all the viewers at home, we thank you for watching and we'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
