Room for Improvement: Family Room
Through time, home decor becomes outdated and worn out. So tonight, our makeover maestro, Martin Amado, is here to help on woman spruce up her family room with some simple changes. Let's watch on Room for Improvement.
WSVN -- Martin Amado: "At a certain point, the family room begins to show all the wear and tear it's gotten throughout the years. However, once the kids grow up, it's the per fect opportunity to give the entire space a more modern update. That's the goal on today's Room for Improvement."
Martin Amado: "All right, Pilar, so this is your family room. Not much is happening from what I can tell."
Pilar: "Well, this is where we all hang out to watch TV and family gathering spot, but I really was afraid to really put so much effort into it because the kids were small."
Martin Amado: "How old are your kids now?"
Pilar: "They are 9 and 10."
Martin Amado: "I know you have to go to work, and we'll surprise you at the end. You trust me?"
Pilar: "Yes, I do."
Martin Amado: "We already have a sectional, but if you notice, the space is still looking quite bare. So we need some new furniture and decorative accessories to make it all come together. Let's get to work."
Martin Amado: "Our window span is 144 inches wide, and the longest length that I could find in drapery rods is 128 inches, but not to worry. The tip is to buy two rods and join them together to get the length that we need."
Martin Amado: "Do not be afraid to use sheers, because it really soften--------s the light coming into the space."
Martin Amado: "Perfection."
Martin Amado: "I want to place an accent chair here in this corner, which means I don't have enough room for a bookcase to display decorative accessories, so these two floating ledges really take advantage of this wall space."
Martin Amado: "Here we go, the perfect merchandising ledge."
Martin Amado: "So, this is where I got the inspiration for the family room."
Martin Amado: "Because Pilar's sofa is so large, I don't have enough room for a traditional end table. So this modern option literally is the perfect tip. It slides right underneath, and it doesn't take up a lot more room. Love it."
Martin Amado: "The final touch and now, we have the perfect entertaining space, not only for her kids but also the adults. Let's get Pilar."
Martin Amado: "This morning, Pilar's family room was a blank canvas for great decorating. The window treatments now made a big difference to make the room feel cozier, and the decorative accessories in soothing shades of gray, taupe and blue help to create a stylish and inviting space for everyone to enjoy."
Martin Amado: "Go ahead, open your eyes."
Pilar: "Oh my God. This is, oh my God. This doesn't look like my house at all."
Martin Amado: "You like the blues?"
Pilar: "I love everything. Oh my God, it's awesome."
Martin Amado: "Enjoy it. Lots of new memories to be made here in the new family room. To all you guys at home, thank you for watching, and we'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
