Room for Improvement: Living Room
You may love a certain style for your home, but just don't know where to start or where to find the decorative pieces so tonight, our makeover maestro, Martin Amado, is here to help one woman spruce up her living room.
Martin Amado: "Although the furniture was nice before, it was a bit bulky, too perfectly matched and didn't reflect the new style direction we were going for in the living room. The only solution was to start from scratch."
Martin Amado: "And the first change was to make this wall a focal point. Now, when you think about Havana, you think about cigars and tobacco right? So, that's exactly the look that we tried creating here with this beautiful wall treatment. Let me show you how you can also do this on your own."
Martin Amado: "This amazing work behind me was done by Juanita from Walls Art and she's going to show us how to do it. Now, Juanita these are not real tobacco leaves right?
Juanita: "No, those are craft paper. With water based stains I just paint it then, you wrinkle the paper you open it up and let it dry."
Martin Amado: "Now, what's the next step?
Juanita: "The next step that you do you take some clear base paint, you put it on the walls first on the back of the paper and then, you glue it and then on top again."
Martin Amado: "Well Juanita this is amazing. Thank you so much for adding your artistry to this living room makeover."
Martin Amado: "To capture that old world feeling in this living room, instead of hanging curtain panels like I normally do, these wood plantation shutters fit the bill."
Martin Amado: "I love this love seat."
Martin Amado: "All right, its a sign that this rug was meant to be for this living room. Look at the name on it. That's divine design."
Martin Amado: "Perfect. The furniture that was here before was way too matchy matchy. By breaking up some of the pieces and adding different textures, we really enhanced the Island feel that we're going for."
Martin Amado: "Our inspiration right here."
Martin Amado: "Final touch and we are done."
Martin Amado: "When I first met the homeowner, she wanted the living room to reflect her love for Havana. Therefore, her inspiration for the entire makeover was to turn this space into a lounge. Incorporating rich woods, leathers and textures that remind us of that beautiful tropical island. I think we accomplished that. Now, she has the perfect space where she can entertain family and friends. Until next time, I'm Martin Amado for Room for Improvement."
