Room for Improvement: Boy's Room
Parents know kids grow way too fast, and we're about to see just that on tonight's Room for Improvement. Our makeover maestro, Martin Amado, is going back to redo a little boy's room he designed years ago.
Martin Amado: "OK, Jeremy, I met you 8 years ago. You were only 2 years old and we did your bedroom the way it looks now. But now you're how old?"
Martin Amado: "Obviously your decorating style has changed."
Jeremy: "I want to change the TV desk so I can watch TV more often and, like, a desk where I can do my homework."
Martin Amado: "So, high five! I'm going to get to work and you're going to school, and then we are going to surprise you at the end."
Martin Amado: "All right, so the goal for today is to give Jeremy a more modern preteen space, which means we're saying goodbye to the planes, trains and automobiles theme that we did about 8 years ago. Let's get to work."
Martin Amado: "So Jeremy tells me these rubber band bracelets are the hottest trend in elementary school. Pretty cool. Have to keep up with the times, people."
Martin Amado: "Our new inspiration for the decor of Jeremy's bedroom is KidRobot. These pieces disbursed throughout the room will become sculptural elements."
Martin Amado: "We are getting rid of the primary color in the bedding that remind us of a kid's room, and in its place, a more modern color palette with a Chevron design."
Martin Amado: "How many pillows does Jeremy need? One, two, three, four, there's like six pillows all together here. Must be nice, Jeremy."
Martin Amado: "I placed the bedsheet on backward because once I fold it over the comforter, you can actually appreciate the design."
Martin Amado: "Another good tip is, if you buy a reversible comforter, you get more bang for your buck, two different looks."
Martin Amado: "With the main furniture in place, we can now get creative. Instead of using paint, I'm now using duck tape to create a graphic element on this wall in front of the desk."
Martin Amado: "All right, Jeremy, say bye to the last detail that reminds you of your toddler bedroom."
Martin Amado: "All right, this is it. The final touch, guys, and Jeremy's bedroom makeover is complete. Let's go find him."
Martin Amado: "Eight years ago, we started with the theme planes, trains and automobiles. Now that Jeremy is all grown up, we gave him a more modern bedroom to reflect his new interests and personality."
Martin Amado: "Open your eyes and see your new bedroom space."
Jeremy: "Oh my God."
Martin Amado: "Is this what you wanted?"
Martin Amado: "You like the colors? You like the bold graphic on the wall?"
Martin Amado: "So high five. Enjoy your bedroom. Get good grades in school. And to you guys at home, thanks so much for watching, and we'll see you next time on another Room for Improvement."
