Martin Amado: “On today’s Room for Improvement, its all about Window Treatments 101. If you’ve ever been unsure about whether to buy blinds or curtain panels, at what height, ‘How do I install them,’ well, hopefully on today’s segment all those questions will be answered, and in the meantime, we’re giving this window a summer style.”

Martin Amado: “All right, so at the moment, the curtain panels give us privacy, but if you notice, the color is very dark and heavy, and it doesn’t reflect summer decor. So, we are beginning from scratch and also exploring some other options.”

Martin Amado: “When it comes to window treatments, you have many choices, including wood blinds and this beautiful Roman shade in a bamboo texture. I’m choosing this one because it reminds me of summer. It’s also going to complement my second layer that you’ll see coming up later.”

Martin Amado: “Here’s a good tip. This is the front of the Roman shade and this is the valance. You want it to be flush with the front of the window. What I like to do is install a bracket as well here and basically measure from the front all way to the back. That will give us a reference point to install the bracket at the very top of the window.”

Martin Amado: “Now, the wider the blind, the more it’s going to weigh, so don’t skip corners and use every single hole in the bracket to ensure that it’s securely attached to the window. You don’t want it to fall down on you.”

Martin Amado: “I love this texture. It helps to bring an organic element from the outdoors indoors, and at the same time it’s very tropical, so of course it’s very Florida.”

Martin Amado: “The other thing I like about these Roman shades is that whether it’s up or down, it gives us a decorative look because of these beautiful folds.”

Martin Amado: “The bamboo shade looks fantastic, and of course, you can stop right here; however, I’m adding a second layer of window treatments just to soften the entire look.”

Martin Amado: “I chose these linen panels with grommets because it reminds me of a coastal style and, of course, we’re inspired by the summer.”

Martin Amado: “Now you can totally appreciate the beautiful bamboo and the neutral linen, and it helps to dress up the entire window.”

Martin Amado: “All right, so we went from dark and heavy panels to something much more light and airy that reflects a coastal style. Remember, just like we change our wardrobe for the different seasons, we can do the same thing with our home decor. This window now screams, ‘Summer has arrived!’ Until next time, I’m Martin Amado for Room for Improvement.”
