Room for Improvement: Master Bedroom

Archived Reports:

All Room for Improvement

What happens when you have some great furniture mixed with some so/so decorations? It's a room that needs the make over maestro. Martin Amado makes it all work together on tonight's Room for Improvement.

WSVN--The makeover madness continues on Room for Improvement! And today we come to the rescue of a master bedroom that's not living up to it's full potential! Of course, all that is about to change in one day.

Martin Amado:"Room for Improvement. Hi Kim … How are you? Let's see the room."

Martin:"What don't you like about it?

Kim:"It's a nice sized room. But it's not cozy enough."

Martin:"Even though the room has great furniture, it's still lacking that cozy feeling the homeowner desires. Some paint in the right places, curtain treatments and accessories should do the trick."

Design Direction:

The first thing we're going to do is paint the wall behind the bed an accent color. This will help give the room more depth and help define the bedroom space from the seating arrangement on the other side.

Martin:"This yellow on the wall makes the room bright. But since we want a cozier feel, this butterscotch makes the room much warmer."

Martin's Magic:

Kim has one large window over here, and if you notice, she has two smaller ones on this side. The trick is to use one curtain rod on the two. That way it visually balances out the wall.

Martin:"One of the reasons this room looks so bland is because of this bedding."

Martin:"But now with the new comforter set, the bed really pops."

Martin:"This chaise bothered me as soon as I walked into the room. So we have to come up with a better solution."

Martin:"Now the first thing you notice when you enter the room is a cozy little reading nook. We just added a table and a floor lamp."

Martin:"You can never have enough candles in a master bedroom for a really romantic touch and now we can say, we're done."

Martin:"What started off this morning as an uninspiring master bedroom has transformed in one day with a budget of less than $1,200 into a sleek, metropolitan space filled with lots of style! Let's hope Kim likes it."

Martin: Open your eyes!

Kim: Oh my God. Wow.

Kim:"This is gorgeous"

Kim:"I love the candles. It's definitely like a New York Chic apartment."

Martin:"If you don't know where to begin decorating in a space, find an inspiration piece. It can be something as simple as an area rug, toss pillow or even a fabric swatch. Keep that in mind as a starting point. Until Next week."
