Smart Shopping: Buddy Bonding
We all know shopping in bulk may save you big bucks, but for some, there's no way to store all those bulky items. So tonight, Seven's Reed Cowan is showing us how having a buddy can help you save big without buying too much on Smart Shopping.
WSVN -- Pounds of coffee, a bundle of paper towels and big packs of meat, wholesale club members know they can save big by buying in bulk.
Janet Sauzo, BJ's Wholesale Club: "They're actually saving about 28 percent compared to supermarket prices."
But some of us don't have room for ten pounds of chicken in the freezer or big bundles of toilet paper in the bathroom.
Janet Sauzo: "We're actually seeing a lot of pairing members."
Janet Sauzo of BJ's Wholesale Club says the solution for some folks, shopping with a buddy.
Janet Sauzo: "Call your friend, your buddy, and let them know what you need to see if they need that as well."
Yesenia Castro and Joseph Vazquez have been buddy shopping for the last four years.
Yesenia Castro: "It works out. We save a lot of money and space because we don't have that much space to store all the bulk stuff."
Joseph Vazquez: "Also, the economy situation puts you in this place."
They split all their shopping items to save big at check out.
Yesenia Castro: "We usually just go to the cars and split off everything, and it comes out so much cheaper than going to a supermarket."
Now, it's easy to overspend, so make sure you go in with a list of what you need, and make sure you bring along extra bags or look for goods that are easy to divide.
Yesenia Castro: "On the meats, we can get the ones that are packaged in two or more quantities, so that we can split."
Also, don't forget coupons. BJ's takes both manufacturer and store coupons.
Yesenia Castro: "Oh, I only have one child, and I recommend it for everyone because you save so much money."
Also, keep in mind big box stores offer other services. Joseph likes to take full advantage of them all.
Joseph Vazquez: "If you want, you could have lunch here. You could buy your food made. You can even fill up your tank outside, have your car change service while you are here."
