Getting a makeup kit together can be very expensive, but there are ways to save. Seven's Robbin Simmons is here with the Smart Shopping tips when it comes to beauty.
WSVN -- Halley Berry, Pattie Labelle, Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell always look great, thanks in part to celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine, and he'll be the first to tell you, you don't have to spend top dollar to get a good look.
Sam Fine: "I never stick with one line. I shop them all. I shop department store, I shop drug store. I think everybody has something great to offer."
Sam says he's always on the lookout for offers from the major cosmetic lines.
Sam Fine: "There's so many gifts with purchases, so even if you know that you're going to replenish your foundation, that's a great time to watch."
And if you're a drug store diva, make sure to check Sunday fliers in the paper. Many drug store lines offer coupons or go on sale.
Also, don't be afraid to take advantage of makeup workshops like this one at Macy's. Sam was here to host the Second Annual Women of Color beauty event.
Sam Fine: "Events are a wonderful way to try products. For $35 you get to come, watch my demonstration, and you can use it whether it's on fragrance or cosmetics."
Diandra Fermin went for a free makeover.
Diandra Fermin: "I really liked it because my prom's next week, so it was a good way to get tips about how to do my makeup for prom. They also had a lot of freebies in the store."
Robbin Simmons: "And those freebies can really go a long way. Savvy shoppers say they never have to spend money on lipstick or mascara because those products are always included in the bonus, so join the mailing list from your favorite lines to make sure you don't miss the next giveaway."
And, as we know, what's hot in makeup changes as fast as fashion trends.
Sam Fine: "Neon colors are very popular right now, and, as any trend, somethings you have to realize may not always work for you."
So take advantage of free samples offered by most high-end cosmetic lines.
Sam Fine: "I always ask for a deluxe sample. Even if I'm buying something, I ask them, 'Do you have any samples?' I mean, it really goes a long way, and it gives you an opportunity to test and try some things that you might not be ready to commit to."
And, remember, there is one makeup item where you can't go cheap.
Sam Fine: "Long before you buy the fun stuff, the lip gloss, the eye shadows, think about foundations, concealers, and powders because, with great skin, everything else looks great."
