7 News Features: 7 Down Under - Wildman Wilderness Lodge
7's going back Down Under for a camping adventure in the outback. But this isn't exactly roughing it. Most campsites have you becoming one with nature. But this one is more like a stay at the Four Seasons. 7's Shireen Sandoval was there and joins us with the story.
WSVN -- Australia isn't all about hunky actors, Nicole Kidman and the Sydney opera house. There's also the famed outback. Yeah, but this outback doesn't come with a bloomin' onion. However, it's not all prowling dingos and kangaroos. You can definitely glam up your tenting experience in what we call "Glamping."
Forget camping the hot new trend in Australia is "Glamping."
Melanie Legge: "It's a very unique experience, sometimes people want something a little bit different."
It's where laid-back luxury meets beautiful landscape. To give it a go, we drove 100's of miles through northern Australia to the outback.
Our destination: The Wildman Wilderness Lodge.
Melanie Legge: "It used to be an old campsite here, so now we've upgraded it to what it is today."
It's not a five star hotel it's a six star campground.
Melanie Legge: "It's not really camping you know the tents have got the beautiful hardwood floors, full toilet, shower, you got a mini bar in your tent, so it kind of takes camping to a new style really."
If you can't take a tent i'm not judging, cool off in an air conditioned cabin.
SS: "When people come here to enjoy this experience, what are some of the things they're going to see and some of the things they are going to do?"
Melanie Legge: "I think the landscape is one of the most amazing things about wildman."
You can cruise along the Billabong River, which is snuggled up next to the lodge or enjoy a walkabout it's a hike with a history lesson and tips on how to survive, as if?
Darryl: "Has anyone heard of Eosella? You break it up and that part there you eat. It's got a bit of zing to it."
SS: "What's it taste like?"
Wanna ride on the wild side? Rev things up with a quad bike tour. High heels not required, but it's glamping so you can dress up to drive around.
Melanie Legge: "It's a great tour, lot of fun, lot of high energy for those who want to get dirty, you really go into the outback for that."
After a glamorous day in the outback. A girl's gotta eat. The restaurant at Wildman Lodge serves up the most delicious delicacies like crocodile carppacio.
SS; "So if somebody actually wanted to come to the outback and have this experience, how much time do they need to do this especially coming from the states or Miami?"
Melanie Legge: "We usually say a three day stay here at Wildman is quite perfect."
"Glamping" it's a glamorous get away, gone wild.
I survived the wilderness or rather it survived me. Friday, we're going crocodile crazy and it has nothing to do with shoes or purses.
