7 News Features: Reach Your Resolution
Resolution's--every new year we make 'em and break 'em! But this year you can achieve your food and fitness goals like a champ. 7's Tom Haynes has the secrets to a winning 2006 -- from the coach to Lance Armstrong.
WSVN--Nobody knows how to reach a goal better than cyclist lance armstrong.
Except maybe coach Chris Carmichael, who helped Lance reach the top.
Chris Carmichael: "We are really all empowered, we all have that inside us."
If you have big dreams this year, chris knows the secret to making them come true .
First- create an 'authentic goal'.
Chris Carmichael: "How you know it's an authentic goal is you almost struggle to say it out loud, you're almost a little embarrassed to say it out loud."
Even a winner like Armstrong, was afraid to dream big back in 1998.
Chris Carmichael: "He was a little embarrassed to say he wanted to win the Tour de France, and now after 7 straight victories setting that authentic goal is very important."
Then whatever your goal is -- Chris says don't keep your resolution a secret.
Woman "My ultimate dream is to maybe get a six pack."
Chris Carmichael: "You gotta say it and even better you gotta write it down and that allows you to make a commitment to it."
Next, build a team.
Chris Carmichael: "Making sure that you surround yourself with people that are going to support you. These are the people who are going to be there when you start to wane."
And be willing to sacrifice - you have to make time to reach your goals.
Chris Carmichael: "Taking control and being able to make sure they're setting their lives up so they can incorporate healthy eating and exercise. and most of us don't do that, we say we want to do that, but we pack our schedule full and where is it going to fit?"
But the biggest thing that separates the winners like lance... From the losers...
Chris Carmichael: "His ability to commit 100 percent. 100 percent to a goal, most of us don't do that. Even top athletes don't... they hold back 1 percent. because that one percent is their cushion. It's not whether you win or lose it's about being able to really go for it and put it all on the line."
And if you mess up...Like eating junk food or skipping a workout.
Chris Carmichael: "Never give up, never quit. One of the mental tricks is making sure that you can go back, that consistency that you can be able to follow and that you can slip up but you get back to it."
So that next year...You can toast to all you've achieved.
