Is your New Year's resolution a plan to get fit or eat better in '09? Seven's Belkys Nerey takes us to two places where healthy living is made easy in tonight's Style File.
WSVN -- If you want to live and breathe a healthy lifestyle this year, you truly can at the new Canyon Ranch Miami Beach.
Charlotte Prescott, Director of Spa & Fitness, Canyon Ranch: "Canyon Ranch is about life enhancement and really inspiring people to explore their highest intentions of healthy living."
It's the first Canyon Ranch in the U.S. where you cannot only check in as a hotel guest, but you can actually live there!
A personal chef will whip up organic and calorie conscious meals like Thai Ceviche or Diver's Scallops. It's also the first CR property to serve alcohol, low cal of course, and they even offer soda. Well, sort of.
Chef: "We searched high and low for sodas that would be healthy for you, and we couldn't find it, so we made our own. You add a little bit of passion fruit syrup and some club soda, and you have a delicious passion fruit soda. No high fructose corn syrup, no colorings, it's all natural."
There are over 230 fitness opportunities weekly, including activities like rock climbing and each person gets a computer key that tracks your workouts.
Charlotte Prescott: "You come in each day and plug in your key into equipment, and it's going to set the weight and number of reps. It records your workout, so the next time you get with your instructor, they are going to be able to evaluate how well you executed the program."
One of the best things to come home to, the Aquavana Spa. Chill out in the igloo room set at 41 degrees with an icy shower, then warm up in the Herbal Laconium jacked up to 108 degrees.
Charlotte Prescott: "It's basically contrast therapy, the use of hot and cold therapy to really stimulate the lymphatic system."
For those who shy away from crowded mega gyms, get some personal attention this year at Me Fitness in the Wynwood District.
Robert Severiano, owner, Me Fitness: "That's where the name came from. It's your gym, your place, and it's all about me when you're here."
They only offer personal training sessions, so it's not a cookie-cutter workout. Lenny Kravitz and Matt Damon are just some of the celebs who train here.
Robert Severiano: "We take care of you from workouts to eating, and we offer concierge services, so everything you need, we can take care of."
There's even an outdoor space where these hotty totty trainers will have you hopping through obstacles or flipping 200-pound tires.
David Lebatard: "Definitely flipping this tire over 20 times is challenging. It's the sort of exhaustion that is exhilarating, and it's a really nice way to start the day."
Because there are only three trainers at Me, it's never crowded, so you can hang out like you're at home.
Michelle Rubell: "It has a complete home feeling. You can sit on the couch, have a coffee, read the paper."
So make it all about you and your health this year.
