Style File: Cinemas by the Bay
Love going to the movies, but sick of the same old movie theaters? Well, now there's a better way to catch Cameron, Tom and your favorite actors, and it's practically in your own backyard.
WSVN -- When you think of downtown Miami you think of construction, traffic, busy people and movies.
Well, that's what Robert Herting was thinking when he created Sunset Cinemas By The Bay at Bayfront Park.
Robert Herting: "The idea behind our theater is really just to put a different spin on today's theaters and kind of add something to it, so we took the roof off, put it outside and we kind of try to make it an experience for everyone."
You'll get the same first run films you'd see at the theater.
Three movies play nightly -- one around 6, another 8 and the last showing is around 10.
Only you get to watch in the heart of downtown Miami.
Patricia Kawaja: "You can stretch right out really comfortable, which you can't do in a movie theater. There is no one around you, and the sound is really great, the screen is huge, and you can just really lose yourself in a movie."
What is even better, you can turn your moviegoing experience into a picnic or romantic evening.
You can bring your own snacks -- even booze -- provided it's not in a glass container.
Dinner and a movie anyone?
Paul Kudyba: "I mean you look at the city, it's beautiful. The weather right now is perfect, and it's just something different. You can enjoy the movie out."
The price is right too.
For the same amount as a regular indoor theater you can catch your favorite stars, under the stars.
Robert Herting: "Right now we charge $9 for adults, $6 for kids and seniors and [children] 3 and under are free."
The idea is still catching on, but already Robert says he's making big plans for the future of this outdoor movie experience.
Robert Herting: "Eventually, we want to do more catered food, lounge chairs, a more upscale section."
If you don't want to bring your own snacks, there is a concession stand. The movies change on a weekly basis. Just remember, Sunset Cinemas only accepts cash.
