Style File: Sizzling hair
It can be a hair-raising experience for many women, but now some tips to smooth things over in tonight's Style File. Seven's Belkys Nerey has tips from two hair stylists to the stars on how to beat the heat.
WSVN -- It's a cruel, cruel summer. We'd like to look like Mariah but, with the heat and humidity, we look more like Medusa. Don't fret. These two celeb stylists can help tame your wild locks.
Roque Jimenez, Creative Director at Samy Style Beauty Lounge: "Anybody can look like a celebrity here in Miami."
Roque Jimenez, who does the 'dos for Mariah Carey and Catherine Zeta Jones, is now the creative director at Samy Style Beauty Lounge on Lincoln Road. He says one of the hottest summer looks is the side ponytail.
Roque Jimenez: "I did one on Mariah Carey the other day for her fragrance launch in New York. We did a Bordeaux kind of ponytail, to the side, like a fat ponytail, a center part, kind of a wave, height up here."
Another way to beat the summer heat, is a loose up-do with curls. Use a large-barrel curling iron, to add some wave. Then use Roque's secret trick to put it up.
Roque Jimenez: "We took a center ponytail, in the center here, I brought both sides back and pinned those into the ponytail, and then tease this stuff back."
It's glamorous and humid-proof.
Roque Jimenez: "Having a wave in your hair to start off with and going out with hair up, you're in a win-win streak here."
You can also make waves wearing that same look down. Stylist to the stars Harry Josh created this beach look by using a hot rod and going piece by piece.
Harry Josh, Creative Consultant for John Frieda: "The luxury of this hairstyle is it doesn't need to be maintained this is a pro-humid hairstyle."
Harry Josh: "This is very reminiscent of something you would see Kate Hudson, Drew Barrymore or Giselle walking down the runaway with this."
Products will help keep it that way.
Harry Josh: "If you've got fine hair, a mousse or curl-activating spray. If your hair is thicker or dense, you want to go with a thicker pomade or gel/cream combination."
Harry also suggests the John Frieda frizz-ease thermal protection serum.
Harry Josh: "What this does, it is a oil-based silicone, it smooths the cuticle, but it actually has UV protection in it."
And one of the best ways to tame hair: accessorize with a double-pronged elastic headband.
Harry Josh: "So, not only is this going to control those fly-aways, but it will also give you a chic, sexy look at the same time."
All ways to look like the star you are.
