Fashion is making it into the home. Things that are cool for clothes or jewelry are now cool for furniture too. In tonight's Style File, Seven's Belkys Nerey shows us some fashionable furniture to create a Chic Home.
WSVN -- From jewelry to shoes, Lucite is a fashion must, but it's also becoming a clear choice for the home, thanks to Miami designer Daisy Olivera.
Daisy Olivera: "The trend with Lucite is something because it is crystal clear like water. It can go in any room."
Invisible but definitely eye-catching. All of Daisy's Lucite pieces are manufactured right here in Miami, and they range from tables to privacy screens to breakfast trays.
Daisy Olivera: "This breakfast tray was inspired by my not being able to find a really good bridal shower present, and, as you can see, transparent works with any color bedding."
Many of the pieces can be used multiple ways, like this console table that also serves as a buffet or a vanity, and all of the Lucite, well, isn't so clear. Some have color too.
Daisy Olivera: "My groovy martini tables are like jewels, and it serves a purpose. Little drink when you're having guest, having a cocktail party."
Herbert Brito: "She calls them a martini table, I don't know if I'll let people put glasses on them, but, at the same time, an accessory table is wonderful."
Another place that'll give your home a hipper-than-though attitude is Base Annex. It's hidden away on Lincoln Road, without even a sign to help you find it.
Steven Giles: "I think our base customer is different. They are people who like adventure and people who like to discover things. Once you enter the store, then the adventure begins."
It's like a treasure hunt in a mini-department store. There are seven rooms full of unique furniture, and each is decorated in its own theme.
Steve Giles: "It's almost tongue-in-cheek what we're doing. We take it seriously, but there is a great animated fun about it. You can come in and pick out an individual item or take the whole room."
Many of the rooms are done by color, like the red room or the black room, and, even crazier in hot Miami, a log cabin room with hand-painted animal heads or an antler chandelier. In the camo room there's furniture that'll help you blend in with fashion.
Steven Giles: "Camo was huge again this year. You were wearing it, you were carrying, so we decided why not use it for home furnishings."
The rooms are always changing, and they try not to repeat items, so try to buy anything that you're really "cuckoo" about.
Belkys Nerey: "In addition to furniture, Base Annex also carries women's clothing and designer jewelry and handbags, and Daisy's Lucite furniture is sold at the Robb & Stucky Showroom in Coral Gables.
