Style File: Baby Stars
Summer is approaching and many of you might be looking for something fun to do with your kids. In tonight's Style File, 7's Belkys Nerey takes us to a place where children can have a blast and learn at the same time.
WSVN -- Summer in South Florida usually means extreme heat, rainy afternoons and often boredom for the kiddos. So for those looking for some summer fun, we've got just the answer: Baby Stars.
Romina Bryce: "Baby Stars is a center for early child enrichment. It's a place where children develop intelligence through play."
The Aventura center has just kicked off "Fun Wednesdays" for children two to six-years-old.
Just like the name, the fun happens every Wednesday from three to six with all sorts of activities.
Laura Gomez: "We come to everything. We stay the whole afternoon, it's so great, he gets a little bit of everything."
The afternoon kicks off with free play in the gym, but this child's play has a purpose.
Romina: "Our gym is designed to master an area of gross motor development. This week for example, is all balance. So the children learn how to control their balance through the activities we're doing in the gym."
Next up, an art class for your picasso's in training. The kids aren't just painting or scribbling, this class also involves some art history.
Romina: "We introduce an artist, we talk about the artist, who the artist was, and then the children need to imitate the style of that artist."
Juanita Gomez: "He's learning a lot from the art classes. When we are at home we practice a little bit what they're shown in class."
There's also a puppet show and the last activity of the day is cooking. Little ones put on chef hats and aprons and learn to whip up easy dishes.
Laura Gomez: "He's actually learning how to cook. He's learning the names of the fruits and vegetables. The cooking class is great for them. They go through the senses, the smell, the touch, the taste."
Parents can stay and play or just go enjoy some rare, free time on their own.
Aliza Scheinkman: "It kinda gives the moms a little break."
A break for mom and dad and a whole lot of fun for the kids.
Belkys Nerey: "Classes start at $5 and are taught in both English and Spanish."
