Style File: Fall Fashion
With our warm weather, Miami doesn't do fall like everyone else in the country. But you can still wear some of the coolest trends. In tonight's Style File, 7's Belkys Nerey shows us fall fashion, South Florida style.
WSVN -- Our leaves don't change colors, and there's not a chill in the air, but that doesn't mean we can't indulge in fall fashion.
Ileana Lima: "Fall fashion this year is all about military-inspired looks. We're looking at warm color palettes, a lot of browns, olive greens and nude colors."
At the Electric Couture Boutique in Kendall, they suggest the military look with a softer side.
Ileana Lima: "The first look is a metallic cocktail dress, which has a lot of embellishments and hardware, and that's really in for fall. It still has a very feminine look."
Dresses and tops are off the shoulder, and denim-washed, loose button-downs are in.
Ileana Lima: "The loose button-down look is great, because you can wear it open, layered."
And since it's still warm, shorts can take you through fall and winter.
Ileana Lima: "We can still wear shorts. We're just looking at different textures. We're looking at leather shorts. We're looking at lacy shorts."
Like it or not, harem pants are still hot, and skinny jeans are hanging around for fall, too. Just don't rule out white.
Ynelle Borbolla: "In Miami, you can wear white jeans in fall and winter. Let's consider it our white winter. She's wearing a lace sequin top, which is a crop top, with white jeans."
If you don't want to invest in an entire fall wardrobe, Miss Pepper in South Miami has you covered. The shop, run by three best friends, sells only accessories.
Victoria Palli: "With the economy, you don't want to buy a new outfit every week. Your accessories can make the outfit. You don't need to go buy a new shirt or dress."
When it comes to fall jewelry, the bigger, the better. And you need one statement piece, like a large necklace.
Victoria Palli: "You can wear a tank top, a T-shirt, skinny jeans, throw on a huge necklace. That's really all you need."
If you don't have one big piece, then just layer what you have.
Victoria Palli: "Think bracelets. Just put on a few, necklaces, go from short to long. You definitely want to mix fabrics, beads, whatever it is, you can put it together and make it work."
Jewelry also has an edge this fall.
Victoria Palli: "Think pyramid studs, think mixed metals, swords, daggers, all that edgy stuff is great to incorporate with your classic look, your military look or all the neutrals that you're going to see in fall."
Fall bags are still big and bulky, but color is key.
Victoria Palli: "Everyone has a black, brown or beige bag, so you really want to move into a neutral with a pop of color. Think navy or military green."
All of this is affordable fashion we can all fall for.
Belkys Nerey: "Prices at Miss Pepper start at $15, and the women at Electric Couture say they can dress you from head to toe for under $100."
