Style File: Gridiron Grill-Off
Want to mingle with some football treats and sample the food of some of Broward County's best chefs? In tonight's Style File, 7's Belkys Nerey fires up the grill for the "Gridiron Grill-Off."
WSVN -- So maybe the Dolphins aren't doing so hot this year. Don't worry, you can relive their glory years while eating great food and sipping fine wine to boot we've got the perfect ticket for you.
John Offerdahl: "The Gridiron Grill-Off where celebrity, competition and charity collide."
On November 18th, former Dolphins player and restaurateur John Offerdahl is hosting the Gridiron Grill-Off at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater.
John Offerdahl: "It's taking my friends from the Gridiron, 20 Dolphin's legends and pairing them with my friends from the grill."
Here's the game plan: 20 of Broward's best chefs are each teamed up with a Miami Dolphins legend the dynamic duo's will compete against each other to try and create the best grill recipe.
John Offerdahl: "Fans get to eat that, drink it with wine, vote on that recipe."
The competition is thick with top chefs like Oliver Saucy from Cafe Maxx in Pompano Beach paired up with Dolphins Great Mark Duper.
Chef Oliver Saucy, Cafe Maxx: "You guys are going down you're coming to my hometown, Mark Duper
and I are going to take you down."
But will their super duper's skirt steak give them bragging rights, as masters of the grill?
Chef Oliver Saucy: "We're making firecracker skirt steak with an avocado puree and a charred tomato salsa. All wrapped in a tortilla kinda like a taco. This is why we're going to win the competition. it's the secret spice."
Not so fast. Don't underestimate executive chef Shannon Murray from Shula's On The Beach.
Shannon Murray: "I might be little, but I cook a mean steak."
She's teamed up with none other than Dave Shula to create the undefeated bone-in filet.
Shannon Murray: "We are going to be serving our fantastic Shula cut beef. It is a 12 ounce bone-in filet, served with root vegetable mash and a merlot reduction. The winning combination of our dish I believe is simplicity."
Executive chef Alan Hilarcic from Anthony's Runway 84 is fired up for the competition.
Alan Hilarcik: "I don't care if you're small and little or big and famous, Marino and I are going to take it to you guys."
He's cooking with Dolphins legend Dan Marino and they plan a blow out with their spicy Italian recipe.
Alan Hilarcik: "We are making Civolta cheese sausage you pinwheel it, get a bamboo skewer, keeps it in place, cheese sausage, very spicy nice delicious. Take it throw it on your grill. You fry up your red peppers, broccoli rub, etc That's your touchdown. Nobody gonna come close to Marino and I this year. We're going all the way to super bowl of grilling."
When it comes to food this good no one is the loser.
Belkys Nerey: "Again, the event is Nov. 18th at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. Tickets are $75 and all the money goes to charity."
