Style File: Boutique
Living in South Florida means enjoying the gorgeous sunny weather, but there's a downside to all our fun in the sun. But in tonight's Style File, you can protect your skin and still look great.
WSVN -- Take a look at these clothes. Notice anything strange or different?
Other than the fact that they're fashionable, you probably won't.
Andrea Bennington, Owner, UV Wear: "We are fashion meets function."
What is different is that all of these cute clothes shield you from the sun's harmful rays.
Andrea Bennington has opened UV Wear Boutique, the first store in South Florida that sells all sun-protective clothing.
Andrea Bennington, Owner, UV Wear: "I realized there was a need for this. The UV rays can reach you through glass, through clothes, through the clouds. It doesn't even have to be a sunny day."
Andrea knows firsthand that if you don't cover up, the sun can cause wrinkles, or even worse, skin cancer.
Andrea Bennington, Owner, UV Wear: "We had personal experience with some skin scares, and our family, we lost a very dear friend to a very bad case of melanoma."
If you hate slathering on sunscreen, these clothes will do the trick.
While most T-shirts will give a factor protection of only 5, these clothes offer a UPF of 50.
Andrea Bennington, Owner, UV Wear: "The UV rays will go through regular clothing, but they won't go through these clothes."
The boutique carries about 15 different sun-protective brands, from gorgeous wrap dresses, tunics, hats, polo shirts and pants, basically anything under the sun for everyone in the family.
Pamela Bond, Customer: "Got into sun clothing and the styles were, like, kind of scary. So when I walked by here the other day, I saw the beautiful pieces in here, I was, like, right on."
We've all seen those people walking around outside, covered from head to toe, who look a little ridiculous.
Well not anymore.
Pamela Bond, Customer: "I don't have to be the one people going, 'What is wrong with her?' I can do it in style now."
Protecting your skin has never been so "in."
Belkys Nerey: "Prices range from about $25 to $125."
