Style File: Love Puppy Love
Move over Hello Kitty. Dogs are getting some major love in tonight's Style File 7's Belkys Nerey shows us how a Miami Beach teenager is designing for dog lovers.
WSVN -- Hello Kitty, one Miami Beach teenager thinks it's time dogs get some big love too.
Jonathan Ovadia: "Seeing how a company like Hello Kitty can do so well with cats, and there's really nothing on the market for dogs. And in my opinion, dogs are man's best friend."
At just 16-years-old Jonathan Ovadia is already a fashion designer with his own brand called "Love Puppy Love".
Jonathan Ovadia: "I want to become an international iconic brand that everyone can recognize."
Jonathan grew up having a lot of dogs so when his business teacher at Miami Beach High asked him to come up with a unique business idea, his mind went straight to the dogs.
Jonathan Ovadia: "We had to come up with a niche in the market place for something that is on demand, that is not available. There really isn't anything for dogs. If you type up dog t-shirts on Google, it's always like pictures of dogs it's not like cute."
He and Ms. Austin started working on a business plan and then Jonathan got to work designing t-shirts for dog lovers.
Jonathan Ovadia: "I always wanted to make something cartoon-ey, so I started designing. I tried coming up with cute images that would appeal to girls. Usually girls are like 'Ahhh puppies, Ahhh dogs are so cute'.
His favorite golden retriever Goldie was the inspiration for many of his shirts especially the shop-a-holic one.
Jonathan Ovadia: "We would take it to PetSmart, and it would put everything in it's mouth, and carry it around."
Jonathan's mom loved her son's idea.
Magaly Varela: "I am behind him 100 percent. I will help him with anything I can."
So far Jonathan has sold about 4,000 Love Puppy Love t-shirts and his business plan has won him money in several competitions.
Make those kitties his a little and wear your puppy love proudly.
Belkys Nerey: "Jonathan is planning to expanding his brand to other items. He also wants to make sure money goes to help dogs."
