Spicy, fruity, smoky name your flavor and these mixologists will make you a mind-blowing cocktail. In tonight's Style File, 7's Belkys Nerey gives us the shakedown on the hottest bar in town.
WSVN -- It's time to shake up your drinking routine. The hottest place to knock back a cocktail right now is a temporary pop-up bar called The Broken Shaker inside the Indian Creek Hotel in South Beach.
Elad Zvi: "The Broken Shaker is kind of a like a bohemian speakeasy. Little bit old school Havana in the 50's, meets old school Miami."
No generic drinks allowed here, mixologists Gabe and Elad have been stirring up drinks on Sobe for years and these two are serious about their craft
Gabriel Orta: "It's kind of a like a chef putting all this effort into making a dish. We do the same thing making a cocktail. We have about 45 different kinds of flavors of bitters. We have elixirs, we're making five different types of ice."
Every week their drink menu changes or you can ask for the bartender's choice, where you tell them your fave ingredients and they mix up a custom drink.
Their concotions truly push the envelope like the agave garden, which has tequila, homemade ginger beer and get this, red peppers?
Gabriel Orta: "We're going to add four to five chunks of red pepper, going to give them a quick muddle just to release all the juices."
Or how about a smoky old-fashioned?
Elad Zvi: "I will start with the homemade smoky chili sauce, then I'll put some coffee bitters then some Bourbon. I'm gonna garnish it with some orange the Smoky old fashioned."
But there is just one shake down break down rule when asking for a cocktail there
Elad Zvi: "You're not allowed to have a lychee martini or apple martini."
I can live with that. Here's to drinking something new.
Belkys Nerey: "The broken shaker is open from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Better get your cocktails quick since it's a pop-up bar, it will be gone after June."
