If you haven't been to a farmers market this summer then you are really missing out. In tonight's Style File, 7's Belkys Nerey shows us some of the tasty products that are being made and sold right here in Miami.
WSVN -- The new way to grocery shop isn't actually in the grocery store it's at the numerous farmers markets popping up all over South Florida.
Tom Wilfong, Owner, Copperpots: "There is a huge artisinal food, movement going on in South Florida right now. It lets you get to know the person who makes the food you're eating."
Canning' is cool again thanks to Tom and Vanessa Wilfong of Copperpots.
Tom Wilfong, Owner, Copperpots: "Copperpots started with me experimenting in the kitchen. I was looking for a better strawberry jam, something that wasn't off the shelf."
They sterilize their jars and whip up their jam concoctions inside their Miami home, and their varieties are sure to please every palate with about 10 different types of sweet, spicy or savory jams.
Tom Wilfong, Owner, Copperpots: "We like to the take the older recipes and add a new world flavor."
Expect lots of fresh fruit jams like summer mango and apple butter.
Tom Wilfong, Owner, Copperpots: "It has a flavor profile of digging into the center of an apple pie."
VANESSA: "I am making our pineapple and five spice jam. It's one of our more popular jams."
Mmmm...we can tell you it tastes just like pineapple upside-down-cake. There is also a red onion marmalade and jams with a kick.
Tom Wilfong, Owner, Copperpots: "This is our sweet and spicy. It's a candied jalapeno medium-spiced product, it's sort of like a relish."
Another farmers market favorite is Laurie Landgrebe's gourmet granola.
Laurie Landgrebe, Owner, Laurie's Pantry: "Laurie's Pantry granola is cooked fresh daily. There are no preservatives. I only use organic ingredients. The key to granola is to make sure that everything is thoroughly mixed."
This is not your average store bought granola, Laurie has somehow come up with 35 different flavors.
Laurie Landgrebe, Owner, Laurie's Pantry: "I would like to be the Ben & Jerry's of granola. Because I think granola lends itself to flavors."
Yes, please! Laurie mixes up fun flavors like s'mores, cherry bomb or how about blueberry crumbcake?
Laurie Landgrebe, Owner, Laurie's Pantry: "Which is just like your grandma's crumbcake. Blueberries, crumbcake topping and almonds."
If you're trying to eat right, munch on the health nut.
Laurie Landgrebe, Owner, Laurie's Pantry: "Agave, goji berries, raisins, lots of seeds."
Is time for breakfast yet? We love anything made in miami.
Belkys Nerey: "You can find all of these locals selling their goods at farmers markets around town.
