Danger! Danger! You're gonna want to ditch your diet for this one. 7's Belkys Nerey has the sweet details on two new old-fashioned bakeries in tonight's Style File.
WSVN -- If you've been searching for delicious baked goods then welcome home. The new ACME Bakery & Coffee in Miami's Midtown is ready to rise to the top when it comes to baking bread.
Aniece Meinhold: "We have about six to eight breads that we are baking in house on a daily base."
Devour cheddar and scallion scones, jumbo biscuits and suck your stomachs in, pecan maple sticky buns.
Christine Najac: "It was the most sinful, insane looking thing in the case. It's completely worth it."
And it's not just decadent desserts, they serve up some pretty over-the-top breakfast and lunch dishes for really good prices.
Aniece Meinhold: "This is a jumbo buttermilk biscuit with country ham gravy and fried egg on top of it. This is our country meatloaf sandwich, made with meatloaf that we use ground veal ground pork beef in, melted cheese, onion marmalade.
Rob Hagerman: "I'm back for lunch had the Hot & Melty, add bacon and a fried egg on top. On a scale of one to 10, I give it a 12."
Burn off some of those calories by taking a spin around the shop, which the owners think of as an ole' time general store. You can pick up homemade jams, jellies and pickles even vintage sodas.
Aniece Meinhold: "We wanted to focus on the simple things in life. A time when you knew your neighbor. It has a sort of June Cleaver sort of slant to it."
In Miami Beach more tasty temptations in the south of fifth neighborhood at the new Lee And Marie's Cakery Company.
Yannis Janssens: "We're trying to take everyone's childhood classics, from marshmallows to pies to breads, but then replacing artificial ingredients, and replacing with local butter, local dairy, local cream."
Owner Andrea named the cozy spot after her daughters grandmothers who loved to bake. You can grab southern classics like a hummingbird cake or bundt cakes with a unique twist.
Yannis Janssens: "We took a classic bundt cake, which we infused it with some red fruits some cherries with strawberries. Glazed in a nice cherry glaze in the oven."
Amanda Parker: "I'm having the carrot cake now which is out of this world. I'm getting married next month and this is like a disaster for my wedding dress, but it's worth it."
There are homemade Oreo cookies. Heath bar eclairs and if you're really old-school you can take a stroll down memory lane with items like cup cones.
Yannis Janssens: "It's taking an ice cream cone and a cupcake put together."
Or how about yummy and hard-to-find monkey bread.
Martha Dominguez: "The verdict is it's worth every calorie. I think that's the beauty of this place, all these timeless recipes, monkey bread, you can't go wrong."
The sweetest part of Lee and Marie's, the whole business was founded because the owner Andrea, wanted to help autistic adults find work.
Andrea Travaglia-Owner: "We've already employed one adult and we have three more coming within the next three weeks. They make wonderful employees and deserve the same quality of life as my children do."
A bakery with a huge heart, Now here's to not having huge thighs after enjoying all this goodness.
Lee and Marie's will make you a cake for any celebration, and ACME serves breakfast all day long.
