Style File: The Butcher Shop
It may sound strange but a butcher shop is actually making the cut as a hot spot to hang out. In tonight's Style File, 7's Belkys Nerey takes us to a new place to meet and eat in Wynwood.
A longtime South Florida butcher and his son have just opened a new beer garden and grill in Wynwood called The Butcher Shop. The idea is genius. They butcher it. You pick it and then they cook it.
Fred Niznik-The Butcher Shop: "We took it a step further from just being a butcher shop, to walking up and being able to pick out your own meat, steak, chicken, sausage, take it home raw or we will cook it here on the spot."
Dustin French-Customer: "I like being able to look at your food before you pick it."
Meliz Andiroglu-Customer: "We got to choose exactly what we wanted. Which I think is neat for a restaurant to do because you don't usually have that access to see what you're going to get."
While you wait for your meat to cook, grab a cold one and hang at one of the communal tables in the huge beer garden.
Fred Niznik-The Butcher Shop: "You can get some hand selected either craft beers or import beers. We wanted 10 to 12 hand selected beers that you can choose from."
Beckett Horner-Customer: "The beer is good. Brooklyn Ale, they have a good list."
Now back to the meat, the chef says his top choices are the porterhouse.
Dustin Ward-Executive Chef, The Butcher Shop: "We use black angus prime which only three percent of restaurants use it has a big juicy filet on it."
And any of their store-made sausages.
Dustin Ward-Executive Chef, The Butcher Shop: "I would suggest the Westfalian Mettwurst, which is made by our German butcher."
Burgers are another top choice from lamb feta burgers all the way to a bleu cheese burger with bleu cheese fritters on top.
Dustin Ward-Executive Chef, The Butcher Shop: "You can go anywhere and get bacon or gorgonzola put on top of a burger, but we actually grind it into the meat so the flavor gets into the meat as it's cooking."
Every Saturday evening from six to eight they throw a sausage party. Buy two drinks and you get a sausage for free.
Dustin French-Came for the Sausage Party: "I think it's a great deal. If you do two or three even four beers, basically, you get a full meal for free."
Beckett Horner-Customer: "To have a burger with a brat on the side that's a good night for me."
For the ladies who don't want to get messy, try their meat and cheese platters.
Ediz Andiroglu-Customer: "I went big. We got some chorizo, manchego, different nuts, salami, couple other cuts of meats."
Sounds like a fun night out ... I'll "meat" ya there.
Wynwood just continues to grow. A brewery is expected to open there soon too we'll keep you posted.
